Covia is looking for an Operational BI Developer who will have a positive impact on the Operations team across our network of plants. As an Operational BI Developer, you will be responsible for successfully creating a common data framework for operational information which can be used for visualizing performance that embraces the continuous improvement process, driving productivity improvements as well as leading, and engaging various work teams to accomplish operational objectives.


The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist in developing and maintaining Covia specific Operations Management System primarily for site operations with objectives that include:
    • Using data to drive a culture of performance
    • Using data driven analytics to improve work effectiveness and efficiencies
    • Provide tools and approaches to help sites be successful in their use of data driven decisions
    • Identify systems to support debottlenecking and loss prevention
  • Create implement and maintain plant level utilizing visualization and graphing tools that enables data driven decision making.
  • Assist in developing Operational KPI’s, dashboards and reporting that identify strengths and opportunities for continued improvement. KPI examples include OEE, process tons per hour, drying therms per ton, kilowatts per ton produced, manhours worked per ton produced, etc.
  • Establish a collaborative working relationship with key technical personnel in Operations, Information Technology, and Controls/Process Engineering.
  • Partner with multiple functional teams to understand business challenges, primarily those that are manual, error prone and highly inefficient.
  • Research, cleanse, and maintain various data sources used for visualization on a timely basis.
  • Build and foster a strong culture of personal and process safety across the organization.
  • Create reports and data-driven presentations, identify trends and insights in data and communicate findings and recommendations
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines into AZURE SQL data base from various data sources and develop data capture interface using Power App
  • Create dashboard in Power BI and update them on a daily, weekly and Monthly basis.
  • Train end users on how to use dashboards and resolve access and technical issues with Operational dashboard in a timely basis
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Travel Requirements 25%.

The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or Science from an accredited college or university, required
  • Advance Degree or Certification in the data management area is required
  • Minimum of 6 years of work experience in data ETL from Human Machine Interface (HMI) or SCADA systems (Ignition, MQTT) in AZURE SQL data warehouse
  • Experience with creating, implementing and maintaining SQL data base
  • Experience with Microsoft AZURE IOT hubs, Data factory
  • Experience with creating data capture interface on phone, tablets using Power Apps
  • Expert in Power BI reporting tool and Excel for creating dashboards and ad-hoc analysis
  • Familiarity with API, Python coding to gather data and analytics
  • Familiarity with IFS or other ERP systems data tables
  • Self-motivated to resolve challenges and address obstacles
  • Strong communication skills are essential
  • Strong analytical and technical skills, ability to solve complex problems, ability to innovate, and a strategic business perspective and financial acumen
  • Attention to detail
  • Practices continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Action oriented/drive for results
  • Good relationship skills, interpersonal savvy
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to meet deadlines and collaborate within and outside the departments
