POSITION TITLE: Design Engineer-Active Cabinet Product Line

POSITION OBJECTIVE: Execute product design, development and improvement objectives for the timely delivery of world-class, active telecommunication components to Clearfield markets.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works as a team member with other design drafters, engineers, marketing, product management and suppliers to achieve design objectives including, but not limited to:
    • Design Changes and Continuation Engineering of the ODC Active Cabinet product lines, including drawing changes, BOM changes, ECN/ECO generation and administration, etc.
    • Design, Development, Implementation, and Verification activities, when specialty configurations and/or customer OEM equipment is to be integrated into ODC cabinets.
    • Conceptualize and execute 3-D renderings, presentations and on occasion 3-D preliminary models of complete product concepts, as applies to the ODC product cabinets.
    • Responds to customer requests for a particular product or design as determined by Product Management.
    • Articulate and present design concepts to internal staff, suppliers, and customers as needed.
    • Select and test materials, ingredients or components that will be suitable for the product or design.
    • Develop prototypes, tests, and performs verification/validation on designs.
    • Recommend improvements for quality, cost reduction, and process change as appropriate.
  • Use CREO software to provide support to Engineers by preparing models, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams:
    • Complete mathematical calculations needed for design preparation and validation including, but not limited to, power, airflow, thermal generation and dissipation, and other specifics to the ODC product lines.
    • Create cable drawings, wiring schematics, and label artwork (Creo or Adobe software).
    • Utilize basic business and Microsoft product software to supplement Engineering tasks, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Adobe PDF, and Clearfield ERP and PLM systems.
    • New product development projects as applicable to the ODC product lines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS/BA in Design or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrable mechanical aptitude and strong mathematical calculation ability.
  • Five years of product design and manufacturing experience working with active (powered) telecommunications equipment, fiber optics, electrical system controls and integration, sheet metal fabrication (including structural and environmental requirements), tooling and plastic injection-based products.
  • Experience with CREO and Adobe software.
  • Experience with Windchill and/or Agile PLM systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of third-party compliance (UL/ETL and Telcordia) preferred.

Salary Range: $68,730 - $103,102; Bonus eligible position
