This is a rotational assignment that typically lasts 2-3 years with the selectee returning to their original (or different) position at the conclusion of their rotation.
Position duties include but are not limited to:
  • Serves as the Deputy Chief Engineer (CE) for the Space Vehicles Technical Directorate (TD). Provides engineering support to the TD CE on systems engineering (SE) and programmatic matters.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of tailored Systems Engineering (SE) processes, policies, practices, tools, and training across the directorate’s portfolio and the S&E workforce to ensure successful S&T execution. Supports the Directorate Test Lead and Deputy Test Lead with responsibility for ensuring all USSF, USAF and DoD Test policies and directives are followed.
  • Establishes, supports, and maintains working partnerships with end users and system managers across the acquisition and sustainment enterprise to ensure directorate’s technology development efforts are informed by the right requirements to enable best possible technology transition success.
  • Works with digital engineering subject matter experts (SMEs) to help ensure RV’s digital enterprise supports the full spectrum of SE functions from the test environment to military utility analysis.
  • Works with the Mission Leads in evaluating RV programs and recommending variable execution strategies for their investment priorities amidst shifting budgets.
  • Measures SE application and effectiveness within the directorate. Performs a continuous assessment of program status, leads ad-hoc or formal studies and maintains emphasis on a full spectrum 6.1/6.2/6.3 portfolio.
  • Ensures directorate remains compliant with AFRL and higher headquarters SE and program management policies. Tailors and applies Operational Safety, Suitability & Effectiveness (OSS&E) and/or Mission Assurance principles to directorate programs as appropriate. Supports and engages directorate S&Es and provides SE guidance and coaching.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Must possess an active TS/SCI security clearance
  • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level II or III certification in Science and Technology Management (STM) or Engineering (SPRDE)
