We are part of a large group of Tiospaye (extended families) within the Tetonwan (Lakota) Nation who identify as Sicangu (burnt thighs). Long ago the Sicangu divided into the Kul Wicasa Oyate (lower people) and the Heyata Wicasa Oyate (uplands people). Our Kul Wicasa ancestors favored lands where the Maka Izita Ska (White River) empties into the Mni Sose (Missouri River), while the Heyata Wicasa lived higher up towards the Paha Sapa (Black Hills). In the 18th century, when French traders began to interact with our people, they translated our Sicangu name into French and began calling us the Brûlées. This is how we eventually became known as the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe.

Our homeland has no formal boundaries. For thousands of years, we have lived in the grasslands and river valleys between the Rocky Mountains and the Great Lakes – in recent centuries, west from the Missouri River in present-day South Dakota to the Platte River, in Nebraska, to the Yellowstone River in Wyoming and Montana, to the edge of the forests in Minnesota south of the Great Lakes.

As we walk along the paths of our ancestors, we Lower Brule people are strong and resilient, and so we continue to work hard to protect and preserve our culture and return to our traditional self-sufficiency in this modern world.

Our Medical Staffing is a professional service that provides temporary or permanent staffing solutions for healthcare facilities and organizations. Our team of experienced healthcare professionals includes, but is not limited to, physicians, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, and other medical personnel. We work closely with our clients to understand their specific staffing needs and provide customized solutions to meet those needs. Job Description:

  • Performs professional dental work in the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in routine and emergency settings within the scope of services provided in the dental program of the Taos-Picuris Service Unit (TPSU) Dental Department and in accordance with IHS policies and professional standards.
  • Dental care includes, but is not limited to, providing diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, and prosthetic services.
  • Performs a full array of general dentistry services for patients, including extractions, fillings, root canals, crowns, bridges, dentures, and partial dentures.
  • Examines patients’ teeth and supporting structures. Determines the nature and extent of existing oral disease. Prepares charts of teeth and the oral cavity. Develops plan for treatment of infection including antibiotic treatment, the restoration of carious teeth, the extraction of teeth, and the replacement of missing teeth with bridgework or dentures.
  • Administers local anesthesia as needed.
  • Provides patient education about good dental health practices, post-operative care and participates in educational programs for the improvement of health conditions among service population
  • Prioritizes treatment and dental care including emergency dental care within the scope of TPSU services and programs. Prioritizes immediacy of lab work and patient scheduling.
  • Performs administrative work related to the functions of providing dental services. Charts records of all services provided and patient response to treatment. Reviews and approves lab slips processed for out-going lab work.
  • Makes referrals to other specialists as needed.
  • Supervision, Adherence to Policies, Quality of Patient Care:

o Taos Picuris Dental Clinic service hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday except Thursdays from 8:00am to Noon.

o Day to day supervision by Chief Dental Officer and indirectly with the Contracting Officer Representative.

o Dentist will keep the supervisor (or designee) informed of the general time of arrival and departure for daily reporting.

o Dentist will only be paid for services provided and approved by the supervisor or designee.

o Document visit accurately and completely with all related clinical data within 24 hours of date of visit according to TPSU policy and procedures, AAAHC standards, and CMS regulations.

o Maintain sensitive & confidential client information according to the HIPAA policy.

o Attendance at Dental and Health Center staff meetings and/or trainings is required as well as participation in continuous performance improvement activities as they relate to the scope of work.

o Employee responds, as required, to support public health emergencies, incidents and events. Employee participates in all exercises and drills on emergency preparedness and response, as required. Completes trainings identified as appropriate for this level employee.

o Overtime compensation is not authorized in this contract.

  • The Dentist shall furnish, prior to commencement of performance, evidence of insurance.

Professional Development:

  • Contractor must be a graduate of an accredited dental school and possess a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree.
  • Contractor must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE)
  • Contractor must possess a current, full, unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a state of the United States or its territories and maintain unrestricted Dental licensure in the region or state of practice.
  • Maintain continuing education hours annually or as required to maintain licensure.
  • Current CPR certification.
