The Data Systems Analyst provides critical data analysis, reporting, visualization, and stewardship of sensitive student and departmental data. This position will work closely with IT operations, web development, database, and helpdesk staff within IST, as well as with the Financial Aid and Admissions teams within the Law School. This position reports to the Information Systems Architect and has a dotted reporting line to the Dean of Admissions.

Responsibilities
Applies professional and broadly defined business analysis and data/information administration and data use concepts to manage and perform complex assignments. Supports a suite of Tableau dashboards for both admissions and financial aid departments. Consults with the Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid to conceptualize, design, and build new data visualizations for a variety of audiences (internal and external). Develops and maintains task-oriented Google Sheets which rely on an integration between Google Sheets, Qualtrics, and DocuSign. Responsible for all facets of financial aid data management, including internal and external reporting. Manages transfers between databases, bulk data uploads, and related troubleshooting. Works with the Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid to ensure these processes adhere to campus and law school requirements for data security and compliance, and to consider PRA-related implications for creating new reports. Supports data management and communication plans to financial aid recipients and Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) participants. Manages multiple Access databases including LRAP and American Bar Association (ABA) reporting; maintains and ensures secure data storage and integrity of data relationships. Independently analyzes complex information requirements and documents them using formal data definition techniques and naming standards. Gathers, analyzes, prepares, and summarizes information from subject matter experts and technical personnel. Researches relevant problem-domain literature and information standards and develops recommendations for data management resource plans including approaches, trends, sources, and uses. Serves as a key departmental resource in identifying technical solutions for business needs. Implements related business processes and develops logical data models, dimensional data models, and schemas for the scope of a project or a component of a project. Develops data mapping specifications and extract-transform-load (ETL) designs. Facilitates data transfers between departments. Develops and maintains documentation both for technical specifications and also for general departmental use. Independently designs information transformation processes. Designs and implements capture of metadata from technical processes such as software design and database management. Performs complex data management or resource research and studies for a variety of constituents and plans metadata acquisition for sets of unstructured data objects such as collections of images, documents, or recordings. Develops queries and data sources from within the Law school and externally in support of ad-hoc analysis, forecasts, and other as-needed reporting. Engages in professional development and training opportunities as needed. Performs additional duties within the scope of this classification as assigned.

Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced SQL and Tableau skills. Familiarity with and/or ability to learn UC Berkeley campus data systems. Working knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language (e.g. Python, R, shell scripting (sed, awk), etc.).

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $97,000.00 - $113,500.00.
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is exempt and paid monthly. This is a hybrid position, eligible for 20% remote capability.
