The University of Virginia Darden School of Business has an exciting part-time position (30 hours per week) for a PREP (Prison Reentry Entrepreneurial Program) Coordinator. The Darden School partners with the non-profit organization, Resilience Education, to implement PREP. Darden PREP is in 3 correctional facilities around the greater Charlottesville area, 2 men's facilities and 1 women's. The three courses that are taught are Entrepreneurship (year-long), Foundations in Business (1 semester), and Financial Capability (1 semester). MBA students are in instructor teams that teach 2 times a week throughout the semester. The Darden PREP Coordinator recruits, trains, and coordinates both the instructor and the student's engagement in PREP.

This position is located in-person in Charlottesville, VA with flexibility for hybrid work. Please note this position is not eligible for benefits.

Duties and responsibilities:

Program Recruiting

  • Assist with recruiting efforts, which include interest sessions, office hours and emails
  • Assist with the application/selection of instructors
  • Assist with applications/selection of students

Administrative and Program Support

  • Organize and share the casebook materials with the facilities to print weeks in advance of the start of class
  • Coordinate, prepare, and hold 3 training sessions for the MBA instructors
  • Assign/establish team leaders
  • Prepare a Teaching Teams Spreadsheet for the MBA Instructors to coordinate among themselves of who will be teaching when
  • Prepare Student Schedules that will be passed out on the first day of class
  • Prepare Attendance sheets
  • Organize a Google Drive or Teams Drive for the MBA instructors with the course syllabus, instructions for the student's final assignments, instructor resources, guidance on the specifics of their facility, etc.
  • Weekly emails to facilities by Monday morning of who will be teaching at the facilities for the week
  • Coordinate any additional materials that are needed for classes each week (Negotiation cases for the Foundations in Business course, The Great Gatsby book for Entrepreneurship, Industry packets, and research requests)
  • Stay in regular and good communication with teams and team leaders
  • Visit the sites regularly to check programs progress; provide communication as needed to courses
  • Help MBAs, staff/faculty, or any other guest speakers get their clearance paperwork completed before mid-July (hold office hours throughout the summer)
  • Coordinate fingerprinting at the facilities in August
  • Attend final presentations
  • Coordinate and organize grading
  • Coordinate weekly meetings with Resilience Education to update them on the progress of the program and offer suggestions to improve the course
  • Hold evaluation sessions with students to give back their feedback and have them fill out post-release forms
  • Plan with the facilities on when to hold graduation
  • Prepare certificates and letters
  • Manage Resilience Education Credit Projects
  • Maintain good communication with facility partners as there are constant lockdowns, changes in schedule, or students that may need assistance
  • Hold office hours once a week for MBA Instructors to come and ask questions
  • Attend student presentations and check-in periodically throughout the semester on how the courses are going and what can change
  • Work closely with Darden Business Publishing to revise and refine the PREP cases that are taught
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Educational and Professional Experience:

  • High School Diploma and at least three years of experience required. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • Attention to detail, strong problem solving, clear writing and speaking skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse graduate students and faculty.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and solve challenges as they arise.

  • Microsoft Office Suite with skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
