POSITION SUMMARY

ARTECHOUSE seeks to hire a Curatorial Writer to be part of its growing team. This is a full-time position, that can be based in NYC, Washington DC, or Miami. Considerations will be given for qualified applicants in other cities within the US.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated writer with editorial experience and a background in project management and content creation who has the ability to capture the creative vision of each exhibition and curatorial project in a form that is digestible as well as inspirational. This position is responsible for developing written communications that capture ARTECHOUSE’s entire ecosystem, including Studio’s work, curatorial, exhibitions, and special projects, for both internal and external audiences. Working closely with creative director and multiple divisions within the company, including digital and marketing teams, the person in this role will build a library of consumer-facing written assets for multiple platforms and channels. This role is for someone who excels at writing for different audiences and on different channels, with key products including curatorial and educational materials, exhibition texts, creative briefs, blogs, website copy, press release copy, artist bios, talking points, video scripts, presentations, commentary pieces, interview Q&A responses, on-site exhibition text, and more.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compile and write curatorial, exhibition and special projects-related text, including briefs, exhibition description, curatorial statements, artist information, quotes, exhibition decal, installation label copy, text panels, welcome video scripts, staff and educational materials, and more
  • Actively participate in discovery meetings and content planning sessions. Synthesize complex creative visions into consumer-facing language that represents the consumer experience for each exhibition
  • Write text for consumer-facing marketing material that can be utilized by the Digital and PR teams on multiple platforms
  • Author SEO-informed content for the ARTECHOUSE blog and manage all related research
  • Author white papers as needed, representing ARTECHOUSE as a trend-setter in the digital and arts and tech industry
  • Write artist bios to help showcase the artists, their work, and their stories
  • Compile and write ARTECHOUSE brand-related text, including description, brand voice, guidelines, style guide, and parameters
  • Draft responses to publications and interview questions on behalf of the founders and ARTECHOUSE as a whole
  • Serve as project manager and editor for any written communications related to ARTECHOUSE Studios as well as each ARTECHOUSE production
  • Ensure various ARTECHOUSE divisions, such as marketing & sales and operations staff, have access to the most updated language that reflects the exhibition and the ARTECHOUSE brand essence
  • Support the editing of documents across the organization, ensuring both grammatical accuracy and consistency with curatorial intentions and goals.
  • Update and maintain exhibition records and files on a shared server and ensure the website always has the latest information.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 4 years of direct relevant work experience in writing, editing and developing content in a journalism or arts environment
  • Demonstrated writing experience with a writing portfolio
  • Knowledge of art history, art + tech, and/or digital art trends
  • Ability to comprehend and synthesize complex information in a way that is understandable and relatable to a general audience
  • Demonstrated ability to portray complex concepts cleanly and simply
  • Experience in researching for factual accuracy and additional insight to inform written pieces of work
  • Experience in writing for a variety of mediums including long form and short form content (blog, talking points, social posts, captions, press releases, etc.)
  • Experience in writing brand positioning and brand voice documents
  • Bachelor’s Degree in English literature, creative writing, art history, journalism, or communications required

QUALIFICATIONS + SKILLS

  • Excellent copywriting, communication and editing skills
  • Strong portfolio of sample writing for museums, news organizations, science centers, exhibitions, or cultural publications
  • A sophisticated curiosity about the trends and forces shaping the landscape of the digital arts world
  • Excellent attention to detail, solid organizational skills, very strong proofreading abilities
  • Ability to quickly distill and succinctly convey relevant points of information from a variety of resources
  • Knowledge of grammar and ability to follow style guidelines.
  • A creative thinker who thrives in a fast changing environment
  • Ability to collaborate and work well on a team
  • The ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong time management skills, including: the capacity to determine priorities, a clear view of what is and isn’t practical within the constraints of time and resources, and the ability to anticipate problems and determine how to best resolve them
  • The ability to make corrections based on notes from coworkers
  • Excellent at handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Proficiency in Google Drive and Slack a plus

SPECIAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • To be considered, applications must include the completion of the WRITER PROJECT which gives both parties an understanding of expectations and skill. Proficiency and alignment in writing is the primary factor for success in this role.
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings and/or weekends as needed to meet critical deadlines and support exhibition launches. It will be necessary from time to time to be on-site at any of our venues in order to experience each exhibition.
