Overview:

This position will help all Tramway employees develop an understanding of the L ingit way-of-life . Learn correct use of the L ingit language, mentor employees using traditional tribal values and to be a leading ambassador to Goldbelt Tram ( G T ) guests. This position will supervise and train the theater staff and other tramway staff if requested by respective departmental managers. The Specialist will help create content for the Goldbelt Tram and also assist with tourism development.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with overseeing tourism planning, product development and training, business development/training and marketing/market access for tourism

  • P lans ways to increase brand awareness and funding

  • Support in the development of relevant content and social media topics

  • Assist with outreach of the Goldbelt TRAM

  • Teaches employees of the G T the appropriate ways to welcome guests (in our Lingit traditional manner) to “our” grandfather’s land and providing an understanding to employees of the social structure, society, protocols, and authorized use of Lingit songs, dance, and stories; along with teaching words and phrases in the L ingit language.

  • Help s create content for the theater and other parts of the Tram to help teach guests about our culture and way of life.

  • Help teach the values of our Lingit Culture.

  • Mentor fellow G T theater hosts and employees on the appropriate pronunciation and use of the L ingit language for introductions and when interacting with guests.

  • Participates in maintaining an excellent customer service level to all guests, meets and greets potential guests, provides correct tour and visitor information and assistance to guests throughout all t ramway facilities.

  • Gives guidance to staff regarding the practices and techniques of providing excellent customer service, especially with regard to traditional tribal values.

  • Assists staff as needed, primarily in guest services, retail sales, and restaurant areas by promoting retail sales with guests, theater hosting, and speaking with guests.

  • Participates/attends weekly Manager’s Meetings; considered a part of the G T management team.

  • Help other departments i .e., Tram ops with long lines and being able to keep guests entertained.

  • Supervise and train the theater staff.

  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned .

  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with customers, vendors, staff via email, phone, and in-person.

  • Be responsible for coordination with other program activities as they relate to tourism and integration with the overall program work plan and objectives

Qualifications:

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrated experience as a good role model of Lingit traditions

  • Knowledge of the L ingit social structure and society with ability to teach employees.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.

  • Communication skills to teach Tram employees traditional tribal values

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.

  • Possess some knowledge of marketing principles , preferably in the tourism industry

  • Skill in operating personal computer utilizing a variety of computer software.

  • Working knowledge/familiarity of tram operations systems.

  • Ability to meet ti me and attendance requirements.

  • Ability to work all different shifts including holidays and weekends.

  • Ability to attend all scheduled meetings, orientations, and training.

  • Ability t o handle stress under pressure.

  • Ability to pr ovide quality customer service.

  • Skill and ability to work directly with the public, providing information and assistance on a daily basis .

  • Ability/willingness to learn and pass on to guests those areas of interest to visitors, such as local history, people, culture, geography, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum two (2) to four (4) years of related professional experience

  • Ability to successfully pass a background check

  • Drug testing may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • Experience with leading and managing multiple projects

  • Current CPR and first aid certificates .

  • Fluent L ingit language speaker.

  • Worked in a cultural setting and/or volunteered in a cultural setting .

WORKING CONDITIONS

Standard office environment as part of an aerial tramway and lift operation with the upper terminal located at an 1800 ft. elevation; constant public interaction and communication; constant exposure to extreme heights; periodic exposure to dangerous equipment during emergency evacuations or power failures. The Tram is a non-smoking facility with designated outside-smoking areas.
