PSE's Environmental Services team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Cultural Resource Scientist position!

Job Description

The Cultural Resource Scientist works with the Consulting Cultural Resource Scientist and with various departments to conduct, review and monitor assigned discipline activities associated with construction and operation of company facilities. Technical work may include record searches and data compilation, fieldwork, including pedestrian and subsurface surveys, testing, data recovery and analysis, and monitoring to identify and document resources to support PSE’s operations infrastructure. Conducts work in inter-disciplinary teams designed to accomplish departmental and inter-departmental objectives.


The Cultural Resource Scientist will work under the direction of the Consulting Cultural Resource Scientist and serve as task leader for small project field investigations and programmatic monitoring. Job duties will include completing site inventory forms, preparing draft reports that meet Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation standards, supporting fieldwork efforts and providing support for other departmental regulatory activities, initiatives and projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Works under direction of the Cultural Resource Program Manager.
  • Versed in heritage and cultural resource state and federal regulations.
  • Serves as the task lead for small project field investigations and programmatic monitoring activities.
  • Completes site inventory forms and prepares draft reports that meet Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation standards.
  • Assists and prepares draft reports that meet PSE License requirements.
  • Lead and support field efforts and conducts fieldwork independently for small projects.
  • Assists in supervision of Consultants assigned to projects.
  • Provides clear reporting and documentation of assigned activities.
  • Provides support for other departmental administrative activities, initiatives and projects.
  • Completes assigned training as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Travel to projects throughout PSE territory in Washington State.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Environmental Science, Biology, Hydrology, Engineering, Anthropology, Mathematics or similar with 5 years of experience in the field (appropriate additional may be considered in lieu of degree).
  • Experience and proficiency with MS Office, including Excel and Access.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience conducting field studies in Washington state.
  • Experience or familiarity with field study design and GIS tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and technical report writing skills

The pay range for this position is $67,200.00 - $104,400.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
