What this role is…
As the Corporate Counsel - Litigation, the primary function of this position is to advocate on behalf of company and manage the litigation caseload in the areas of workers’ compensation, employment and labor law, general liability, auto accident claims, and other miscellaneous actions (both defense and plaintiff) that may arise within the company. This position represents the company in administrative, local, state, and federal courts, including drafting legal pleadings, position statements, discovery, mediation, settlements, trial, appeals, and other litigation matters.
The Corporate Counsel - Litigation is also responsible for advising the company on business and legal issues, managing litigation processes related to the caseload, and assisting the General Counsel and other internal counsel with all legal matters. This position will also drive adopting the company’s operating system and Lean thinking within the Legal department to optimize company workflow and efficiencies, while enhancing and developing long-term company legal strategies and goals.
What you'll do…
As Corporate Counsel – Litigation, the key responsibilities are:

  • Workers’ Compensation Litigation - Evaluate, manage, and provide legal counsel during the pre-litigation and litigation phases of companies Workers’ Compensation claims and subrogation claims. Evaluate claims, develop legal strategies, and determine legal course of action to ensure effective and efficient defense of claims.
  • Labor and Employment– Provide counsel on employment related matters, including developing standard processes to achieve best practices in employment and labor strategies and compliance. Identify and assess legal risks and opportunities within the labor and employment field, including changes to case law and governmental policies. Actively manage ongoing labor, employment, and immigration caseload, ranging from basic to difficult complexity. **Educate and train internal stakeholders on new legal matters, policies, and procedures.
  • Legal Processes – Evaluate and manage the company’s metrics, processes, and systems of the litigation legal operations. **Forecast demand for litigation legal operations. Assist with continuous improvement of legal processes and growth planning.
  • Administrative Activities - Schedule flights, lodging, prepare agendas as required, *and *update and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) associated with areas of responsibility.

Shift Type
This position is required to work a 50-hour flexible workweek, with availability to work weekends, during early or late hours, as needed, in a blended work-from-home and corporate office environment, based on business needs.
Job Requirements
What we are looking for….
Education -

  • Juris Doctor and Florida Bar certification required

Work Experience

  • A minimum of (5) five years’ experience in Workers’ Compensation law (defense preferred)
  • A minimum of (2) years’ civil litigation experience as lead counsel before federal courts, state courts, and administrative agencies

Computer Knowledge and Skills -

  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher)
  • Google Suite
  • Case Management System(s)

Certification or Licensure Requirements -

  • Florida Bar certification
  • Valid driver’s license

Legal Knowledge -

  • Workers’ Compensation case management
  • Labor and employment law, including Equal Employment Opportunity commission (EEOC), Department of Labor (DOL), and other complaints/charges
  • Lean Process knowledge preferred
