Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Position Summary

The School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a dynamic candidate to serve as Coordinator of Student Affairs who will help foster a positive academic experience and strong supports for Master of Social Work students in our nationally ranked school. This EHRA Non Faculty position will report to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.

The Coordinator will join the Academic and Student Affairs office which houses admissions, curriculum, and student support efforts at the School of Social Work (SSW). Working closely with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, the Coordinator will lead programming and activities for all Master of Social Work students, both on-campus and remote, such as orientations, academic advising, peer mentoring, and student wellness and appreciation initiatives. Further, the Coordinator will guide students through completion of their plans of study by providing curriculum advising directly to on-campus students and being the liaison with student success coaches for remote students. The Coordinator will oversee professional development efforts for all Master of Social Work students including workshops, job placement events, networking opportunities and alumni engagement. In addition, the Coordinator will serve as the liaison with the School of Social Work Student Organization (SoWoSO), coordinate and implement communication strategies for Master of Social Work students, evaluate Academic and Student Affairs activities, assist in planning for additional student events and activities, lead special projects for Academic and Student Affairs, and serve on SSW committees as assigned such as the Admissions Committee and the Wellness Committee. Finally, the Coordinator will assist the Associate Dean for Master of Social Work Education in the SSW accreditation process with the Council on Social Work Education and the University.



Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.

Leading candidates must have strong organization, planning, and analytical abilities; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, prospective students, alumni, and community partners; and a strong commitment to the social work profession, students, and MSW education.



Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with a Masters of Social Work degree and a minimum of two years post-MSW practice, previous administrative experience and previous experience in an academic setting.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
