Works under the supervision of the Domestic Violence Services Shelter coordinator to provide nutrition and positive dining experience for clients at the shelter.

Sample Job Duties for Cook Hospitality and Food Service Specialist

  • Plan and create healthy meals and snacks to meet program needs. Ensure healthy meals are provided throughout the week and pre-prepare food options for weekends.
  • Fulfill all the requirements of the Child and Adult Care Food Program to meet standards, regulations, and contract requirements and maintain a food safety certification. This includes attending in person trainings and participating in online courses.
  • Ensure that dining room is clean and organized on a daily basis to ensure a welcoming environment for persons served. Interact with all persons served in a respectful and compassionate manner to support a healing environment.
  • Maintain appropriate food ordering, shopping, and storage to ensure effective and efficient operation of the program. Maintain an inventory of all food items.
  • Be responsible for picking up food products at various locations (ex. Food Bank, Trader Joe’s, Kum & Go, etc.) and for putting away food and supply deliveries for kitchen and dining room.
  • Provide interactive direction and ongoing education to persons served at the shelter and their children on nutrition.
  • Consistently stock dining room on a daily basis with milk, juice, condiments, snacks, cereal, napkins, cleaning supplies/dish soap, etc.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings as scheduled, to identify and address program objectives.
  • Attend trainings, classes, workshops as required.

Requirements:

High school diploma/GED required; additional education and or demonstrated experience in culinary procedures that meet federal program requirements preferred. Ability to speak fluently in a second language is desired but not required.
