Fearless is looking for a Content Strategist III to add to our diverse team of 250+ employees (and counting!).

The Content Strategist III develops the systems and governance to structure, produce, and maintain content to meet user needs throughout its life cycle. They develop design governance, workflows, and taxonomies. They lead and implement solutions for operationalizing content strategy across complex products and services. They advise, mentor, and coach junior Designers, Strategists, Customers, and other team members on best practices and implementation. They specialize in ensuring that business requirements, content authoring and workflow, and implementation decisions come together in a usable, useful system. They oversee content requirements and create content strategy deliverables throughout a project's life cycle.

Responsibilities and Contributions

Organizational and Leadership Role

  • Builds scalable content strategy solutions for multiple cross-functional teams and Business Development strategies for new opportunities.
  • Cultivates a community of growth and development through coaching and mentoring others to develop their professional skills.
  • Grows our design community and strategies, leads discussion of design practices and standards, and contributes to practice area communities and activities.

Functional Role

Collaboration & Communication

  • Works closely with Engineers to make recommendations about how to use technology — hardware and software — to handle large amounts of content in efficient and powerful ways.
  • Plans and facilitates participatory content strategy workshops and brainstorming sessions focused on developing content and content services (including API development).
  • Coaches cross-functional teammates, partners, and clients on content strategy solutions and adapts tactics based on the evolving needs of the project.
  • Coaches and mentors other Strategists and Designers to develop their professional skills.

Research & Analysis

  • Gathers key business and user insights, and applies strategic planning skills to create a long-term vision for the content that's generated.
  • Uses content management systems (CMSs) to analyze website traffic and users engagement metrics.

Content Development

  • Develops format-free structured content models so that content can be written in a consistent way to support multi-channel publishing (mobile, web, print).
  • Supports development of content deliverables including copywriting, editing, and design of visual storytelling elements.
  • Owns and champions the team's content strategy practices and standards, through assessing and improving the quality, impact, and strategic planning of outcomes and outputs.
  • Structures and implements digital content publishing platforms, such as CMSs and email marketing software.
  • Creates scalable solutions to develop governance, processes, and workflows based on delivering strategy and policy intent.
  • Defines strategies and policies, and provides guidance to others working in the strategic context as well as evaluate current strategies to ensure business requirements are being met and exceeded where possible.

Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies

Must-Have Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in creating taxonomy and metadata recommendations, site maps, content models, workflow recommendations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing stakeholder relationships and expectations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in facilitating discussions with stakeholders, both internal and external, to build consensus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in identifying users and business needs, developing solutions to meet those needs through strong influencing and communication skills.
  • Experience as a senior-level writer or editor leading digital content creation.
  • Expert in designing and implementing content style guidelines to create engaging content.
  • Expert in the sustainability and consequences of design decisions; ability to make decisions characterized by managed levels of risk and complexity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in guiding regular feedback through usability testing and goal-oriented critique sessions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in recommending, delivering, and implementing a CMS.
  • Expert in defining the structure of CMS repositories so that they support authoring and content retrieval.
  • Experience organizing content so that authors can easily store and retrieve it, and prepare it for automated selection and delivery in the relevant channels.
  • Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, build relationships, and influence others.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational and time management abilities.

Icing-on-the-Cake Skills

  • Experience creating SEO guidelines to ensure searches return relevant content.
  • Advanced understanding of agile processes and ability to both advise colleagues on how and why agile methods are used and provide a clear, open, and transparent framework in which teams can deliver.

Location:

  • In-person, hybrid, and remote options are available. Our offices are located in Baltimore and Montgomery.

Our approach to compensation is intended to ensure our total package serves all of your needs and includes base pay, medical and other benefits, performance rewards, 401k matching, plus a few perks (tech and wellness reimbursement programs)!

Our salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location and provide team members salary growth within a salary grade over time. Team members automatically progress within a salary range through annual increases (given to reward service at Fearless) or merit increases (given to reward and individual's demonstrated performance and growth within the position). Fearless team members are also eligible for discretionary bonuses based on company performance.

The salary ranges for this position based on location are listed below. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified as a part of our annual salary range review.

  • AL, FL, GA, TN Residents: $90,015 (min) - $117,019 (mid) - $144,024 (max)
  • NC Residents: $92,799 (min) - $120,639 (mid) - $148,478 (max)
  • DE, MD, PA, TX, VA Residents: $97,439 (min) - $126,671 (mid) - $155,902 (max)
  • MA Residents: $103,007 (min) - $133,909 (mid) - $164,811 (max)
  • DC Residents: $109,503 (min) - $142,354 (mid) - $175,204 (max)
  • CA & NY Residents: $113,215 (min) - $147,179 (mid) - $181,143 (max)

Within the range, starting pay for team members is based on the evaluation of the alignment with the position description requirements including job-related skills and experience or training. This range reflects your earning potential over the course of your career at Fearless in this position.
