Position Overview:
The Content and Internal Communications Manager is responsible for the creation of compelling written content in support of the Marketing and Communications goals and strategies for Vibrant Emotional Health and its programs, including the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the Disaster Distress Helpline, with the focus on building out internal communications channels, strategies, and processes. This position will help maintain Vibrant’s editorial voice and tone for each program and audience. The Content and Internal Communications Manager will work collaboratively with other members of the Marketing and Communications team, as well as Vibrant’s and the Lifeline’s mental health clinicians, crisis counselors, and experts, to create written materials for a variety of audiences, including people with mental health conditions or in crisis, people looking for information and resources, and people looking to participate in suicide prevention and mental health. These public-facing and internal communications include, but are not limited to, blog posts, articles, e-newsletters, brochures, web/intranet copy, guides, press releases, and internal resources. The Manager’s work will emphasize creating content recommendations and fostering opportunities to share stories of hope and recovery; promoting Lifeline/Disaster Distress Helpline and Vibrant resources and services; drafting communications to the Vibrant community; highlighting staff achievements and expertise; sharing the successes and stories of program participants; fostering interdepartmental information-sharing; and promoting emotional wellness both within the organization and with the public. The Content and Internal Communications Manager will report to the Senior Vice President of Communications & Public Engagement on internal communications with regular interaction with and direction from the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Content and Internal Communications Manager is responsible for creating and publishing compelling content in support of Vibrant Emotional Health and its programs. As a collaborative member of the Marketing and Communications team, this position will work toward organizational and department strategies and goals, including the development of internal communications channels. The Manager will help create written marketing and communications materials, resources, and strategies in keeping with Vibrant’s messaging goals, with a focus on promoting emotional wellness, interdepartmental collaboration, and awareness of Vibrant’s programs. This position will manage communications projects from start to finish, make recommendations for content creation, and will coordinate with partners, vendors, and other departments as needed. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, create and execute strategies and content to support internal marketing and communications content and Vibrant’s organizational and communications goals and core values, including the Vibrant staff newsletter and intranet portal
  • Write, edit, and publish public-facing marketing and communications materials to raise awareness of Vibrant programs, staff successes, mental health resources, suicide prevention, and disaster mental health, including blog posts, resources, press releases, and articles
  • Collaborate with programs, partners, and clinicians to research and write public health resources, messages, and tools that incorporate mental health and suicide prevention best practices and recommendations
  • Facilitate the creation of stories of hope and recovery that de-stigmatize mental health and raise awareness of our programmatic efforts
  • Help facilitate Vibrant communications and marketing editorial projects, from conception to completion
  • Track metrics, create reports, and recommend communications strategies based on needs and goals
  • Represent Vibrant and the Communications team in engagements with crisis centers, partners, program participants, and the public as necessary
  • Support the Communications team and carry out Communications tasks as needed

Reporting Relationship
Reports to: SVP, Communications & Public Engagement
Required Skills:
  • Experience strategizing and developing internal communications materials for complex organizations
  • Experience creating public messaging materials and content, with a focus on addressing sensitive, complex and timely subject matter
  • Strong writing and editorial skills – ability to write for a variety of voices and mediums, ability to convert jargon into everyday language, and experience in storytelling is a plus
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to adapt plans and strategies in light of new information and goals
  • Experience with digital platforms, including website CMS and e-newsletters
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors’ degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, media studies, communications or related field
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience in a marketing and communications department of a complex organization; editorial and/or internal communications experience in a nonprofit mental health, health, or human services organization a plus
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a close-knit team
  • Strong interest in mental health, suicide prevention, and/or disaster mental health
  • Ability to meet deadlines; ability to be flexible, collaborative and versatile in a breaking news environment
  • Track record of implementing and facilitating projects from conception to completion
  • Flexibility and occasional availability on evenings and weekends for organizational needs
  • Some travel required when safe to do so
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, residents, families, service providers and others
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress
  • Ability to respond to telephones and other auditory stimulation
  • Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make independent judgment/decisions
