General Description. A Concrete Laborer–Production Worker is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that sets up beam lines for production, pours concrete, breaks down beam lines and sets up for future production. A Concrete Laborer-Production Worker typically performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates.

Key Duties

  • Learn and follow all safety procedures

  • Tie steel rebar
  • Properly prepare and set forms for production
  • Pour and vibrate concrete
  • Assist in cut down operations following approved procedures
  • Assemble and bend lift loops
  • Remove and clean headers
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements

  • General. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Education and Experience. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.

    • Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction)
    • Ability to read tape measure and plan shop drawings is a plus
    • Recognize different rebar and header types

  • Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Production Worker to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • Required to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hardhat, gloves, safety glasses / goggles, ear plugs, safety-toed boots (6 ), etc.
    • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
    • Work is often performed at heights up to 5 feet, requiring the employee to climb ladders and walk on walk boards.
    • Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
    • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 75 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
    • Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, power tools, hand tools and other materials.
    • Physical dexterity to set up and tie in beam lines, involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
    • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
    • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
    • Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light and weather conditions.
    • Ability to maintain balance while working on walk boards or other surfaces.

  • Mental & Visual Demand. Attention to detail on assigned tasks, learning procedures and following directions to produce quality products

  • Equipment & Material. Careful handling and following of instructions for all tools, materials and equipment. Placement of concrete, reinforcing steel, and inserts.

  • Product. Type IV, BT-54 , BT-63 , BT-72 , BT-74 , FIB 36 , FIB 45 , FIB 54 , FIB 63 , FIB 72 Prestressed Concrete Bridge Beams

  • Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Concrete Laborer-Production Worker encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

    • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise and dust that is typically associated with a prestressed concrete plant.
    • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
    • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found in prestressed concrete plants such as form oil, hydraulic oil, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
