Overview:
Macalester College seeks to hire a Compensation & Benefits Manager role. This position is responsible for building and administering our compensation programs, as well as our health and wellness benefit offerings. A successful candidate has a proven record of successfully curating a strong compensation and benefits function, leveraging a strategic/data-driven mind, coupled with the ability to be a consultative partner with various leadership levels and individuals across the organization. This position reports into the Director, Human Resources and leads and supervises a team of 2 employees.

The Compensation & Benefits Manager will design, implement, coordinate and oversee compensation and benefits programs for the College. This role will monitor benefits, salary structures, balance staffing needs with cost controls, and ensure that policies, procedures and programs are in alignment with the organization’s overall strategic objectives and HR vision.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage, administer, monitor and analyze compensation, benefits and wellness programs.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition, Human Resources team, and managers to provide compensation consultation in making effective pay decisions.
  • Designs and implements the compensation structures (grading system, job evaluation system, job description policy, promotion policy, internal equity, etc.) aligned with the culture and the organization values.
  • Supervises the participation in and conduct of both exempt and nonexempt salary surveys to ensure corporate compensation objectives are achieved.
  • Manages the design, development and training of tools to assist employees and to guide managers through compensation decisions.
  • Responsible for all benefits related record keeping, reporting and administration including all annual reporting such as the annual 5500’s for all applicable College Benefit Plans.
  • Leads mandated benefit plan audits and non-discrimination testing, such as the annual 403b plan audit.
  • Serves as the Compliance Specialist for all legal requirements pertaining to benefit plans. This includes all ERISA, PPACA, FMLA, ADAA, OSHA, ACA and other statutory benefit compliance and employment related requirements.
  • Develops and offers benefits and related communications and training frequently to educate and inform employees of the benefits value proposition.
  • Serves in leadership roles on various committees that promote the College's total compensation strategy. Facilitates the Benefits Advisory Committee by offering new plan and policy recommendations and implements any newly approved changes. Co-chairs the Workplace Safety Committee to help reduce workplace injuries. Serves as liaison for wellness initiatives.
  • Leave Management: Provides oversight leaves of absence including FMLA, ADA/ADAAA, parental, worker's compensation; serves as the subject matter expert and compliance officer for leaves of absence; Leads the worker's compensation program; facilitates the interactive process for disability accommodation requests and ergonomic evaluations.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with compensation and benefits brokers and vendors.
  • Oversees employment data changes and coordinates the Employment Services workflow to ensure the integrity of the HRIS system and department functionality.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in human resources, or relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of full cycle compensation and benefits management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have proven interpersonal and client facing skills with employees, supervisors and senior leadership, as well as external vendors.
  • Extensive knowledge of benefits and compensation programs, policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
  • Experience developing, analyzing and presenting senior leadership- level presentations.
  • Proven analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, to successful completion.
  • HRIS, MS Office, Google and Internet skills required. Advanced Excel experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to resolve complex customer service issues with high levels of diplomacy and tact.

Compensation:
This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $115,00-$125,000, depending on experience.
