Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Community Center Manager, the Community Center Assistant (CCA) is responsible for providing culturally responsive services and referral/resources to enhance the social and emotional development of youth, individuals, parents, caregivers, and families. The CCA acts as a communication and trust bridge between the family, child protective services, schools, social services, and mental health systems. All duties will be performed within a strength-based, culturally responsive and in a trauma informed manner.

This position is non-exempt, hourly, and full time.

Compensation: $17-19/Hourly

Essential Functions:

1 Parenting Workshops/Parent Support

  • Deliver parenting workshops, including planning, coordinating, and administrating appropriate assessments to parents with children 0 – 18 years old.
  • Assist in planning parent support groups, activities, classes, and special events for the community center in cooperation with the community center manager and other MAN staff. Participate as requested.
  • Link individuals, parents, caregivers, and families to resources based on needs.
  • Model nurturing parental attitudes and behaviors at all times with neighborhood residents, guests of the community centers and other staff members.
  • Advocate for and act as a liaison for individuals and families with existing community services and agencies, which may include translation and interpretation.
  • Work with individuals, parents, caregivers, and families to empower them to engage in problem solving.
  • Conduct screens and assessments when working with individuals, parents, caregivers or families when appropriate.
  • Model effective parenting behavior, provide support, education/information/referrals and provide parents with age-appropriate parenting and positive disciplinary techniques
  • Provide case management services which may include one on one face to face support in the community center, in their home our outside organizations as directed by supervisor. Case management support with the following outside systems may include court support, School Attendance Review Board (SARB) and complete accurate documentation
  • May carry a small home visitation case load of up to three families upon approval from the program manager. This task may be supervised by other MAN manager as appropriate.

2. Play Care

· Facilitate age appropriate play and learning opportunities for children in a structured environment while parent(s) or caregivers engage in a class or activity at the community center

· Staff play care as needed or assigned and alert community center manager of play care needs

· Ensure the physical and emotional health, safety and well-being of kids in play care.

· Be responsible for the infants/children in play care or in other community center activities

3. Supervision, Multi-Disciplinary Resource Team Case Reviews, Training

  • Attend regular supervision and team meetings with the Community Center Manager.
  • Participate as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Resource Team (MRT) or Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) of service providers, and presenting assigned individuals, caregivers or families to the MRT as required.
  • Consult with MRT/MDT members regarding issues the individual, caregiver or family may experience that need additional assessments, referrals, or services.
  • Facilitate and document ongoing progress of the MRT and/or MDT action plan.
  • Attend required trainings provided as identified by supervisor that support the development of the role and ensure contract compliance

4. Case File Documentation

· Assist and submit accurate and timely reports, progress notes, and data collection

5. Other Functions:

  • Follow HIPPA laws and maintain confidentiality for all individuals, parents, caregivers and families.
  • Assist with and participate in outreach, community engagements, referrals, and volunteer generation.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, resourceful, and enriching environment for families and staff.
  • Assist with, conduct and/or participate in Mutual Assistance Network’s Community Centers (also referred to as Family Resource Center) classes, events and activities. Assist as needed with play care. Play care assistance includes ensuring the emotional and physical safety of children in play care, planning and leading developmentally appropriate activities that are designed to prepare children for school.
  • Participate in health insurance outreach and MAA claimable activities as defined in the MAA claim plan, and accurately complete MAA time studies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are associated with the B&B Performance Measures.
  • Must report to work site as scheduled and agreed upon with Supervisor (Community Center Manager)
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Ability to work with diverse workgroups and serve families with diverse economic, social, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledgeable about local community resources.
  • Ability to establish and maintain personal and programmatic boundaries while providing supportive services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to individuals who may not share basic commonality, including value systems and behavior norms.
  • Experience in working with culturally diverse communities and families, with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
  • Demonstrate good writing and organizational skill.
  • Skill to maintain a professional, confidential work environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Knowledge of child abuse issues, substance abuse and family dynamics.
  • Knowledge of child development and behavior.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Experience in social services in community settings with families preferred.
  • Able to deal with stressful situations.

Physical Qualifications

· Ability to work in office setting and operate basic office equipment (phones, fax and copy machine)

· Ability to perform basic computer functions (word processing, internet research, email)

· Ability to work with individuals and general public in a community center setting.

· Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

· Ability to frequently sit, bend, twist, squat, kneel, reach, push and pull

· Ability to occasionally walk up to one mile intermittingly with breaks

· Ability to climb stairs

Other Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Clearance of fingerprint background check.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.
  • Able to travel between sites and to offsite events.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
