The Communications Associate provides support to projects as directed by the Director of Program Communications, supporting and supplementing C&O’s relationships with project teams. This role will support the development of production schedules for deliverables and ensures quality formatting, packaging, and production of project deliverables as well as internal ACDI/VOCA documents, including policies. The Communications Associate supports the execution of the organization’s digital (social and web) media efforts as needed, assists ACDI/VOCA staff on the use of branded templates, and provides basic support to assist others on the C&O team as needed. This position supports the department by processing invoices and procurement requests, ordering supplies and performing other administrative duties.


  • Bachelor’s degree required
    in Communications, International Development, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1-year professional experience required, with emphasis on in communications, writing, editing, or international development.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to developing countries required; must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Responsibilities:
Project/Program Communications Support
  • Support of Director of Program Communications in creation of project-specific content and deliverable development, including:
    • Working with the Director, develops production schedules for individual project deliverables and maintains a master schedule/calendar of all project communications milestones.
    • Ensure project offices are supplied with files to print and display posters and other promotional materials; support with ordering and shipping as needed.
    • Editing and formatting documents, project deliverables, stories, and publications, working with C&O colleagues and document managers.
    • Reviewing documents for adherence to donor specifications and standards.
    • Procurement of external editors and translators as needed for project deliverables.
    • Publishing materials to each project’s microsite.
    • Pulling analytics on project web page views, social media engagement, etc. as requested to support reporting or other requirements.
  • Support of Director of Project Comms in training and support of project communications specialists, including:
    • Schedules and helps conduct onboarding of new Project Communications Specialists.
    • Schedules and supports additional training of Project Communications Specialists.
    • Coordinates video meeting logistics, posts content, and supports engagement of the Communications Community of Practice.


Communications Team and Administrative Support
  • Compiles, builds, and maintains templates and ensures use across technical and project groups.
    • Includes review of and updating ACDI/VOCA internal corporate documents (policies, etc.) to ensure correct and consistent pagination, organization, and formatting.
    • May include support of formatting of Board of Directors deliverables in coordination with the Executive Assistant.
    • Manages and updates C&O templates and other materials on AViator Resource Center.
  • Supports Digital Media Manager in updating website and social media accounts as needed, including:
    • Taking photographs of new staff and gathering information for website biographies and social media promotion.
    • Procuring photos from projects and other staff to illustrate website and social media posts.
  • Conducts outreach, writes, and posts “Get to Know” staff profiles on AViator.
  • Posts event and other calendar announcements on AViator.
  • Assists with event sponsorship support and membership organization administration, including managing and supporting setup of exhibits at conferences, ordering, and organizing collateral material/hand-outs, providing logos and other materials to fulfill sponsorship obligations, and taking photos at events.
  • Monitors and orders promotional supplies for events and project or scouting travel teams.
  • As needed, support C&O and/or other departmental teams in creating graphics and/or conducting research.
  • Originates and submits procurement documentation for C&O services and supplies.

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Communications, International Development, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1-year professional experience required, with emphasis on in communications, writing, editing, or international development.
  • Knowledge in international development topics and current issues.
  • Proficiency in multi-media applications, MS Office, MailChimp, Adobe
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral, written and reading comprehension abilities.
  • Fluency in English required, additional language skills desired.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to developing countries required; must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • Must be available during core business hours and/or operating hours for international time differences; flexibility to work more hours when needed.
  • Flexibility to work in office based on work demands.
