Commodity Merchandiser

Operational since 2001, Dakota Ethanol in Wentworth, SD produces more than 90 million gallons of ethanol annually. The company also produces distillers grains and non-food grade corn oil, providing a feed source for local livestock producers or the biodiesel industry.

We are seeking a Commodity Merchandiser who develops, implements, and maintains a broad base of co-product customers; market co-product production for the ethanol plant and evaluates market conditions in order to maintain inventory levels and maximize revenues. FT/Exempt, Days, Monday-Friday!

What you do!

  • Strive to maximize plant profitability by implementing effective risk management strategies and
    tools with respect to co-product marketing and transportation.
  • Strive to build and maintain relationships with local producers and customers.
  • Establish and maintain inventory tracking systems that are acceptable to management and regulatory agencies.
  • Communicate commodity status to the Commodity Manager & third-party marketers on a daily basis.
  • Create sales contracts and review contract status.
  • Create shipping schedules and review status.
  • Arrange transportation to meet shipping schedules.
  • Collaborate with operations department to develop and monitor daily co-product production schedules to maximize economic benefits.
  • Monitor and manage credit risk.
  • Manage third-party trucking companies for freight rates, insurance coverage, performance & billings.
  • Manage feed license registration and reporting for applicable states.
  • Maintain records and submit all required reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform tasks associated with Feed Safety/Quality, assigned or as needed, to meet internal and
    external requirements relating to the production of safe, quality feed products.
  • Support staff with daily processing of invoices and freight billing.
  • Assist Commodity Manager with procurement of corn and corn position management.
  • Assist scale operator with daily operations of the scale room.

What you need!

  • Associate s degree or greater, or equivalent work experience required. One (1) to three (3) years experience in agribusiness.
  • Knowledge of grading grain to USDA specifications, weighing, inventory management and safe grain handling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge in Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability and willingness to learn new software applications is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, communications skills, the ability to multi-task and most importantly, the ability to work well in a team is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Data entry while seated for greater than one hour, telephone use, occasionally lift and move up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Office environment with telephone and computer work. Occasional exposure to dust, odors,
    fumes, noise, and temperature variations.
