The Collections Manager’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: seeing that all delinquent loan customers are contacted and that payments are made in a timely fashion so that the delinquent status of their loans can be resolved, making sure that correct procedures are being followed in regard to the institution's policies and regulatory guidelines, and preparing the proper reports/communications to the Board of Directors, Officers, SONYMA, Freddie Mac, Rural Development and PMI carriers each month.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure collection policies and practices adhere to Federal and State regulations. Proactively keep abreast of emerging regulations and requirements
  • Make Contact with delinquent customers via late notices, letters, phone calls on a consistent basis to collect on past due balances;
  • Maintain all records of collection attempts;
  • Supervise Collections Assistant to ensure workload is being accomplished;
  • Communicate with Asset Classification Committee for classified problem and potential problem loans;
  • Preparation of the following monthly reports:
  • Nonaccrual report for the Accounting Department
  • Asset Classification Report for Internal ACR Committee and the Board of Directors
  • Negotiate workout agreements with delinquent customers. Preparation of workouts or payment deferral documentation;
  • Track workouts, judgments, payment plans, foreclosures, repossessions and other collections efforts.
  • Review delinquency reports prepared by the Core Processor on a monthly basis;
  • Communicates with the Commercial Loan Department on matters concerning credits in the commercial portfolio;
  • Familiar with outside vendor requirements to protect the Bank’s interest with regard to SONYMA, Rural Development, Freddie Mac, and PMI companies;
  • Prepares and reports delinquent loan status to the outside vendors as required, including filing claims for reimbursement:
  • Makes monthly recommendations to the Board of Directors for loans deemed uncollectable. Works with Collection Agency for unsecured consumer loan balances deemed uncollectible.
  • Assists bank attorneys in preparing foreclosure papers and with any subsequent litigation pertaining to the foreclosure process.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of and disposal of REO properties. Conduct onsite visits of REO properties, as necessary;
  • Represents the Bank at times in Court proceedings;
  • Maintains records for all collection activity and provides reports of collection activity;
  • Rectifies or coordinates any Red Flag credit bureau issues;
  • Seeks continued training with regard to collection activity;
  • Reports uncollectible deposit accounts to Transworld;
  • Any other duties that may be assigned.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Must maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with Bank Secrecy Act regulations and all other regulatory, security and Bank policies and procedures.
  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner so that a positive working relationship with customers, coworkers and managers exist.
  • Must interact professionally with other employees, board members, customers and external vendors.
  • Must act in accordance with the Lake Shore Savings Bank Code of Conduct Policy.
  • Implement a system of strong internal controls over financial transactions and confidential information within assigned areas of responsibility. Complete certification on a quarterly basis over the design and actual internal control environment for financial reporting within assigned areas of responsibility in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory requirements.
