Coding Specialist Job at Wabash General Hospital
The Coding Specialist must be able analyze outpatient, emergency room and inpatient records effectively to determine the correct codes for both diagnosis and procedures using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding rules and regulations in accordance with the WGH Corporate Compliance Plan. Must be able to code and abstract information from the medical record and perform all activities with a high degree of accuracy. The Coding Specialist must be able to analyze inpatient and outpatient records effectively and determine the correct codes for the diagnosis and procedures. Must be able to identify correct level of care codes as well as physician component for charges on ER encounters. After identifying the codes and level of care, must enter those charges into the computer system and for billing. The Coding Specialist will be responsible for checking Medical Necessity on all outpatients and emergency room patients. The Coding Specialist will assist the Health Information Director as needed with other duties as assigned. These duties may include but are not limited to: assisting department customers, answering the phone, filing loose paper into patient records and purging of patient records, maintaining off-site patient storage data, assigning of patient medical record numbers, copying and faxing patient’s medical records for record release, insurance, and billing purposes, running department errands, and miscellaneous typing.
Schedule: Monday-Friday Hours: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
Requirements:
- High school graduate required.

CCA, CCS or RHIT required, or eligible. Certification must be attained within 6 months of start date.
- ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding experience.
- Training or 1 year experience with Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology.
