The CNC Machinist works in a precision CNC machining job shop working with industries such as aerospace, high performance marine, medical technology, defense & recreational equipment. The CNC Machinist perform complex precision set-ups and operate various CNC Precision Horizontal Machine Centers. There are no manual mills or lathes, it is all programmed computerized CNC equipment.

What makes a good CNC Machine Operator?

This complex, high precision work requires the CNC Machinist to be familiar with tight tolerances, skilled in interpreting blueprint and accustomed to working independently to set up, operate, adjust settings and inspect their own work using calibrated precision measuring tolls.

Responsibilities

  • Under limited Supervision, perform complex precision set-ups and operate various CNC Precision Horizontal Machine Centers.
  • Perform set-ups and operate CNC horizontal machining centers in a small lot production environment.
  • Initiate machining processes, tool selection and feeds & speeds on variety of materials being machined.
  • Read Blueprints, CIP, and routing sheets
  • Use hand tools, precision gauging and measuring tools, CNC machine tools and controls.
  • Demonstrate skill in CNC and Macro program editing.
  • Close tolerance precision machining.
  • Maintain production rates according to established standards.
  • Maintain quality standards according to inspection procedures.
  • Recommend changes for improved quality and productivity.

Must Haves:

  • Skilled in interpreting blueprints is a requirement
  • Precision Measuring Instrument experience, Calipers, Gauges
  • CNC Machine Operating experience
  • Demonstrated skill in CNC and Macro program editing.
  • Deburring, Grinding, Polishing, Buffing experience
  • Close tolerance precision machining experience.
  • Aluminum experience
  • Familiar with tight tolerances
  • Accustomed to working independently to set up, operate, adjust settings and inspect their own work using calibrated precision measuring tolls.
  • HS diploma or equivalent.
  • One to three years’ experience working with CNC horizontal machining centers, required. Or one-two years technical college in machine tool certificate, acceptable.
  • Understanding GD&T print reading.

Nice to have:

  • One-two years technical college in machine tool certificate, acceptable.
  • Fixturing experience
  • Knowledge and/or experience of Go No Go Pins
  • Load & Unload Cutting Tool experience, how to change tools and speeds & feeds
