RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist physician in exam rooms/in-office procedures
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients to obtain accurate health history and current medication list, measure vital signs including height/weight, and document all information in patient’s chart.
  • Provide education to patients as instructed by physician specifically pre and post-op instructions. Responsible for pre-authorizing diagnostic testing and scheduled surgeries as well as communicating any non-approved testing and or surgeries with physicians and patients.
  • Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filed and available in patients’ medical record prior to their appointment
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as
  • Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls
  • Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and physician assistants
  • Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. medical supplies needed, Cidex expiration dates)
  • All other duties as assigned by practice manager or physicians

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions. Understanding of documentation standards.
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment. Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
  • Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients.
  • Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.

Skills:

  • Skill in reading and following written and oral medical orders.
  • Skill in initiating appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Skill in handling a number of tasks simultaneously.

Abilities:

  • Ability to use manual dexterity to perform medical treatments.
  • Ability to administer a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug dosages.
  • Ability to competently use EHR.

Education/Licensure: High school diploma. Graduate of an accredited nursing or medical assistant program.

  • Current Nursing or Medical Assistant License or Certificate
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers
