We are seeking a Social Service Specialist 1 to join our team in Clackamas, Oregon. If you are interested in becoming a Child Protective Service (CPS) worker, we would be thrilled to receive your application.
Bilingual requirement (English/Arabic)
  • The successful bilingual candidate will need to demonstrate their proficiency in these bilingual skills, English/Arabic by passing test(s) designed to measure their level of proficiency verbally, reading, and writing.
  • Bilingual differential pay is provided to positions that require to use a language other than English to fulfill their job duties within their position. Bilingual differential pay is 5% of the employee's base pay.

As a Child Protective Service (CPS) Worker, you will:
  • Play a critical role in helping families achieve their goals while cohesively ensuring the safety of children.
  • Engage with children, families, resource parents and caregivers in a multitude of ways to achieve the safety, permanency and optimal outcomes for Oregon’s children and families. All engagement will be conducted through a trauma-informed and antiracist lens.
  • Develop and implement multifaceted strategies that build on family strengths and address areas of improvement.
  • Conduct home visits, write reports, attend court hearings, and problem-solve minor crises to major child safety issues.
  • Play an imperative role in balancing the needs of the child and the family in conjunction with legal requirements.
  • Have a unique opportunity to build rapport with families, understand their uniqueness, and learn more about how each family functions.

What you need to qualify
A bachelor’s degree in human services or a field related to human services, or;
A bachelor’s degree unrelated to human services and either:
  • One year of human services related experience, or;
  • Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency, or;
An associate degree and either:
  • Two years of human services related experience, or;
  • One year of human services related experience and related training, coursework or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.
Essential attributes
We are looking for candidates with:
  • Knowledge or skill with conflict resolution or crisis intervention techniques.
  • Knowledge of intersectionality and how the roots of systemic oppression impact all protected classes.
  • Experience conducting investigations and/or formal reviews to assess compliance with standards, regulations, or laws.
  • Ability to engage children and families under time-sensitive and challenging circumstances, to gather information and make informed decisions.
  • Skill in writing reports, such as case plans, court reports and investigative reports that include conclusions and recommended action.
  • Skill in defining and explaining complex rules and guidelines in a variety of settings.
  • Experience engaging and working with community partners and organizations.

Working conditions
  • Employee's work may be conducted in the office and in the community.
  • Daily travel around the district is required. On rare occasions, there may be more lengthy travel for the purpose of a child’s placement, family visit or an enriching training/activity.
  • The employee may occasionally need to be on call. This would be on a rotating schedule and the schedule would be sent out ahead of time to allow for ample planning time.
  • Hours of work may fluctuate based on service needs. Occasional compensated overtime may be required, including evening and weekend work.
  • You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma and may exhibit challenges in controlling their anger or other unexpected emotions impacted by drug use, cognitive impairments, or other factors.
  • Walking into stressful situations that may require quick decision-making skills to ensure safety of those being serviced and own physical safety. This may also be trauma inducing.
