Global Laboratory Services
Global Laboratory Services is an enterprise function comprised of laboratories and support services in analytical chemistry, microbiology, pharmaceutical, stability, and instrumentation services. GLS strives to be Medtronic’s first choice for delivering comprehensive laboratory services and technical expertise to support the development and manufacturing of products that improve patients’ lives. Currently there are 14 labs located across the United States and Ireland.



A Day in the Life

As a Chemist I, you will focus on supporting the Analytical Development initiatives to support new and existing technologies. This role requires effective collaboration, time management and prioritization of multiple tasks in a team focused environment. Responsibilities may include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Works as a contributor to the team;
  • Perform day-to-day activities in the Development Laboratory, including sample preparation and testing;
  • Operate analytical equipment under supervision;
  • Participate in analytical test method development and validation;
  • Assist in writing protocols, reports and presentations of analytical data and communicate results effectively;
  • Perform job functions in accordance with applicable cGMP and ISO standards;
  • Comply with applicable FDA and international regulatory laws and standards;

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Conducts exploratory research to produce new knowledge and potential products; conceives, organizes, promotes, and executes ideas and plans to increase chemistry's role in and contribution to the discovery and chemical approaches to meet exploratory objectives in product discovery.
  • Develops research proposals to provide a technically and economically sound basis for developing and evaluating new or improved products, synthetic methods, processes, and analytical and physical testing techniques.
  • Recommends utilization of the results or changes in the scope of work or termination of projects.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree and 0 years of experience required

Nice to Have
  • 0 - 2 years of experience in Analytical Testing, Method Development and/or R&D experience within the medical device or pharmaceutical industries;
  • Solid oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities;
  • Ability to operate some of the following analytical instrumentation: HPLC/UPLC, GC-FID, GC-MS, Dissolution Apparatus, Other Relevant Analytical Testing Techniques;
  • Some experience with the use of chromatography software such as Empower and MassHunter;
  • Familiarity using common electronic documentation software;
  • Experience with a cGMP environment
