Tetra Tech, Inc. has an opening for a Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) Analyst (Chemist) at the U.S. Army Pueblo Chemical Depot (PCD), in Pueblo, CO. This position provides PCD lab personnel with daily, onsite technical support pertaining to GC/MS setup, method development, and analysis of air monitoring samples for Chemical Warfare Agents. This position requires the employee to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Your Role :

  • Assist with method development using GC/MS (equipped with a dynatherm or Markes system) in support of General Population Limit (GPL) monitoring.
  • Conduct, oversee, and assist with teaching of GC/MS methods and operations.
  • Perform agent analysis on a dynatherm-equipped or Markes system-equipped GC/MS.
  • Prepare and verify standards (both for field and lab)
  • Prepare Depot Area Air Monitoring System (DAAMS) tubesAgent analysis of DAAMS tubes using GC (Chemstation Software)
  • Review MINICAMS® and GC data
  • Conduct data entry and review
  • Liquid/Solid Waste extraction/preparation for analysis of agent by GC
  • Wet chemistry such as percent bleach determination and pH determination

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or other related science
  • Five years’ experience with GC/MS instrumentation
  • Dynatherm experience is desirable

Extensive knowledge and experience performing analyses using a GC/MS including but not limited to:
o Instrument setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting
o Method development
o Method detection limit (MDL) studies
o
o Instrument calibration (including tuning)
o Sample preparation and analysis
o Data review and interpretation including manual calculations

  • Ability to mentor colleagues in GC/MS analyses and procedural protocol
  • Strong computer skills pertaining to GC/MS instrument (Mass Hunter Suite is currently used)
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills with various types of stakeholders
Preferred experience includes:
  • Recent experience with Agilent instrumentation and software
  • Analysis of Chemical Warfare Agents
  • Analysis of air monitoring samples
Colorado Equal Pay Act: This position pays in the range of $93,000 - $95,000 annual.
