Title: R&P/Matching Grant Case Worker

Division: Refugee Resettlement Services

Classification: Full-time/ Non-Exempt

Hours: Monday-Friday

Reports to: Refugee Resettlement Services Director

Position Purpose:

The primary function is to provide case management services for refugee clients in the Texas panhandle area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with clients in establishing and following a service plan for housing; initial safety orientation; and developing a self-sufficiency plan.
  • Deliver client services in a culturally appropriate manner.
  • Assist clients as needed with governmental services, such as Food Stamps or Medicaid, by completing application forms, transporting, and accompanying client to the eligibility offices, communication, and follow-up.
  • Provide referrals as needed and verify attendance in ESL classes to endure compliance with self-sufficiency plan.
  • Document all services provided and interactions with clients in client files.
  • Provide service or arrange for volunteer if available to do the shopping and setting up apartments.
  • Arrange interpreting services (or provide the interpreting) necessary for client appointments.
  • Pick up clients at the airport upon arrival and arrange for interpreter if needed, as well as any additional refugee program staff.
  • Referrals for employment, transportation, and to other social service providers.
  • Provide access to health services by counseling clients to help him/her understand and identify physical and/or mental health needs, providing information and referral to local health services, scheduling appointments with appropriate providers, and providing or arranging transportation as needed.
  • Provide support to the family, through counseling and assistance during times of duress, assisting the family to avoid and/or sustain themselves successfully through the normal pitfalls of cultural adjustment.
  • Providing short-term counseling and case management for clients in an emergency or any perceived crisis that threatens their health, security, or safety in any way. This may include situations of childbirth, domestic violence, evictions, car accidents, sudden death, criminal activity, etc.
  • Perform outreach activities to refugee clients and other social service organizations.
  • Enter weekly updates of clients’ data into the agency database using Client Track, and ETO.
  • Identify and report refugee/community trends to Supervisor.
  • Other duties delegated by his/her supervisor that are relevant to their position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Computer literate particularly with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Strong organizational skills, highly detail-oriented, and able to multi-task.
  • Good writing, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive and pro-active attitude towards work.
  • Discretion, confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Must be able to provide transportation for clients as needed with agency vehicle.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Deals with staff honestly and fairly and maintains open communication.
  • Plans and organizes time effectively and efficiently.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
