We are a nonprofit organization that has helped people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families for more than 50 years. The Arc Plymouth and Upper Cape Cod empowers and supports people with disabilities and their families to belong, contribute, and thrive.

The Arc of Plymouth and Upper Cape Cod is seeking a Shared Living (SL) Caregiver who are interested in welcoming an adult with intellectual/developmental disabilities into their home.

We are currently seeking a SL Caregiver to provide services to a 60-year-old gentleman. This Program member very physically healthy and independent. He requires cuing and supervision to complete his hygiene tasks. He goes to day program five days per week in the Plymouth area. During his time at day program, he works a few hours a week. He has moderate intellectual disability and needs support with all aspects of his medical care, financial management, and some support with his mental health needs. He enjoys movies, bowling, watching TV, going out for Sunday brunch, and attending car shows. He enjoys shopping and giving gifts to the important people in his life. He thrives on structure and continuity. He keeps a calendar which is very important to him. His PCP and few specialists are all in the Plymouth area.

An applicant within the Greater Plymouth Area and that has experience with anxiety disorders and behavior management is a preferred.

As a Shared Living Caregiver, you will explore opportunities for providing community integration through social and recreational activities that the person is interested in. It will be the provider’s responsibility to give individualized support to the person on a daily basis. A SL Caregiver is providing care in their own home like: meals, supporting activities of daily living, promoting relationships and friendships, overseeing medical care, transporting to activities, etc. The provider should be committed to supporting The Arc of Plymouth and Upper Cape Cod’s mission to support a person with intellectual and developmental disabilities to belong, contribute and thrive.

Shared Living Caregiver Requirements

-Must be 21 years of age or older

-High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

- Valid Driver’s license and own vehicle

-Ability to pass CORI check, RMV check, and fingerprinting check per DDS regulations

-Ability to become CPR/1st Aid certified

-Good verbal and written communication skills

-Must be willing to provide on-going transportation for appointments, social gatherings, community access etc.

-Must have a separate bedroom in a home that meets all DDS and Arc regulations

-Must be willing to embody The Arc philosophy- to welcome and assimilate the individual into your home, family and community while fostering and promoting growth, human rights and community involvement as well and safeguarding health and safety

-Experience with people with disabilities desired; knowledge of Positive Behavior Support and Safety Care Certification desired
