Position Summary

The CAPEX & Facilities Engineer has overall management responsibility for major capital equipment and facilities projects in the range from $0.1MM-$7MM. Responsibilities include: technical investigation, equipment selection/specification, project justifications, installation and start- up. In executing these projects, this person leads corporate and plant teams and coordinates with vendors, with key deliverables to include projects that meet budget, timing and performance goals. The person in this position is also responsible for tracking Fabri-Kal's overall capital program to ensure we meet budget and timing objectives. Additional areas of focus include cost savings; primarily through automation and problem solving. Must be available to travel about 30-35% to Burley plant and vendors as needed.

Key Job Accountabilities

Major Capital Project Management

Manages facilities and equipment capital development and execution, assuring effective selection and implementation of the right technologies; integrates safety requirements and considerations into project design and execution; acts as subject matter expert regarding equipment; collaborates with the Manufacturing department to develop standard work procedures for set-up, operation and processing.

Continuous Improvement and Engineering Cost Reduction

Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing groups to identify opportunities and generate cost reduction results; drives focus on direct labor reduction through implementation of automation, as well as improving machine output and reducing down time/pack out loss.

Problem Solving and Quality / Productivity Improvement

Ensures sufficient resourcing to support quality and manufacturing functions, including the help chain, and leads quality improvement efforts; provides effective solutions to complex problems through sound root cause problem solving deployment.

Equipment and Vendor Database Management

Monitors equipment trends in thermoforming and extrusion equipment as well as in plant support equipment systems (compressed air and water systems). Maintains database on equipment/capabilities, age and limitations and develop and maintains a list of critical specifications for equipment purchase, including including safety requirements, electrical certifications, and components specifications. Supplies

manufacturing with equipment emergency contact list.

Knowledge

Engineering Principles

Thorough understanding of engineering principles and how to apply them

Thermoforming Technology - Basic

Basic understanding of thermoforming and extrusion technology

Product Handling and other technologies

Understands equipment used in product handling and decorating. Knowledge of equipment and methods available in the market

Financial Analysis

Can analyze and create a business case related to new equipment purchases or business opportunities

Equipment Safety

Knowledge of Fabri-Kal and regulatory safety requirements. Able to conduct safety reviews on new equipment installations

Thermoforming Equipment

Understands the operation and components of extrusion and thermoforming equipment: motors, valves, heaters, pnuematic systems. Able to troubleshoot

Basic CAD

Ability to create and manipulate drawing in 2D

Manage Vendor Relationships

Understands the techniques required to develop, maintain and manage business relationships with vendors in order to implement and manage projects

SAP

Working knowledge of the SAP system as it relates to CAPEX tracking and purchasing

Technology Investigations

Able to investigate alternate technologies with a focus on decorating and product handling systems

Microsoft Office Suite

Proficiency in MS Office products. Windows, Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
