Building Administrator


Annual Salary: $63,840.00


This position is responsible for the instructional and administrative leadership of a local school program for the Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


The incumbent must have the ability to perform the essential functions below either with or without reasonable accommodations.


1. Direct the development and implementation of appropriate individualized instructional programs for students
that comply with state and federal statutes and MSSD policies and procedures.
2. Promote an age appropriate, orderly, attractive and clean learning environment
3. Supervise implementation of behavior support plans for students.
4. Coordinate off campus instruction
5. Participate in staffings and IEP meetings.
6. Assure effective management of building level fiscal responsibilities.
7. Provide for efficient, effective day-to-day management of personnel, transportation and building
operations.
8. Supervise, evaluate and discipline staff according to established guidelines.
9. Participate in the recruitment process for building staff.
10. Supervise and participate in staff development activities.
11. Promote a positive school climate.
12. Assign students, staff and volunteers to classrooms.
13. Provide a safe school environment for students and staff.
14. Facilitate effective team working relationships.
15. Accurately complete required reports on or before established deadlines.
16. Plan and conduct faculty and collaboration meetings.
17. Promote positive relationships with parents.
18. Foster good relationships with businesses, schools and agencies in the community.
19. Maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
20. Promote treatment of all persons with respect and dignity.
21. Treat all persons with respect and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
22. Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms, using correct grammar, punctuation, clarity
and consistency of thought.
23. Accept supervision, cooperate with change and be flexible.
24. Follow policies and guidelines of the MSSD program.
25. Follow student specific special health care procedures as trained by the school nurse.
26. Participate in Parent Teacher Organization.
27. Maintain confidentiality of parent, student and staff personally identifiable information.
28. Complete a professional development plan as required by certification or new employee status.
29. Handle stressful situations.
30. Regularly communicate with Area Director about issues in the school.
31. Make hot-line reports of any suspected abuse or neglect of students.
32. Regular and reliable attendance at the school.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Lift and move 50 pounds to include assisting in changing positions of students.
2. Perform computer functions for administrative and instructional purposes.
3. Participate in a minimum of one staff development activity per year to keep administrative skills
updated and current.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
5. Itinerant travel may be assigned as needed.
6. Infrequent travel for training and staff meetings.

EDUCATION REQUIRED/PREFERRED:


1. Master’s Degree
2. Certification as principal or special education administrator.
3. Administrative experience preferred.
4. CPR certification at the level determined by the American Heart Association or Red Cross as Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers.

(Other qualifications and experience which, in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education, meet the
requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.)
