Plant Logistics Team

Summary

  • The Ship/Receive - Plant Logistics Team member (SRPLT) is to help Team Leader organize, synchronize, and facilitate the flow of work and material through the shipping and receiving processes. He/she help improve processes for overall Material Handling/Shipping/Receiving and other logistic activity to support processes, procedures, methods, and policies ensuring the most efficient and economical movement of all materials in and out of the plant. In this role, he/she will work and assist Team Leader with internal and external resources to ensure on-time shipment of orders. This includes outside processing, scheduling, and ordering material for Crate Building, boxes, packaging, and material for shipping product. Assist in developing and maintaining a Visual Workplace in Warehousing/Shipping/Receiving, while supporting and following all safety and CI efforts.
  • Following, communicating, and working with manufacturing & customer service with outside processing and vendors on all orders through completion to ensure that orders and stock products are ready and available for on-time delivery.
  • The SRPLT will work with Team Leader to assist supply chain processes such as manufacturing raw material purchasing for customer and stock orders, cost management, change orders, and work with management to maintain and improve the supply chain and order fulfillment.
  • The SRPLT will work with the Team Leader and associated departments (including Manufacturing, Engineering, Warehousing, Sales, Supply Chain, and Suppliers) to continuously improve Shipping/Receiving/Warehousing lead times and provide efficient customer delivery service.
  • The SRPLT will assist and work with Team Leader to confirm or assist in confirmation of order status internally on internal manufacturing, local and international suppliers work progress, inventory levels.
  • The SRPLT will work with the Team Leader and associated departments (including Purchasing, Engineering, R&D, Warehousing, Inside Sales, Supply Chain, Logistics and Suppliers) to continuously improve lead times, customer order fulfilment, stock orders and inventory levels.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the team leader to ensure plant Material, Packaging & Logistics (MP&L) teams are proactively scheduling freight to drive efficiency in the system, and train them on the updated company processes and systems.
  • Build boxes using 12’ – 24’ 2x4’s, sheets of plywood, and hand tools.
  • Work with the team leader to assist supply chain processes such as raw material purchasing for customer and stock orders, cost management, and change orders.
  • Assist in confirmation of order status on internal, external and international manufacturing and inventory levels.
  • Identify issues/opportunities with Logistics & Packaging.
  • Participate in annual cost reductions and contribute to the evaluation and implementation of potential cost reductions related to freight, packaging, and indirect spend.
  • Analyze and evaluate inventory and delivery problems and recommend and/or develop solutions.
  • Comply with OSHA Safety Standards: Hazard Communication and work closely with the Quality & Safety Department.
  • Generate and maintain reports to track performance and costs related to inventory, transportation, cost savings, and other department functions to support customer service performance where required.
  • Material handling to support Manufacturing.

  • Support continuous improvement efforts to improve material flow, shop floor material flow, communication, and teamwork.
  • Promote effective working relationships with other departments and sales agents by maintaining consistent and concise communication.
  • Keep appropriate management informed of potential performance obstacles and offer workable solutions.
  • Participate and review issues with Team Leader and the Continuous Improvement Group to assist in overall performance improvement.
  • Strong learning skills to work with multiple company systems as well as outside customer systems

2.0 Decision Making

The incumbent has acquired hands on experience that will allow them to make sound recommendations on performance and help implement solutions that have positive business impact. They will independently monitor and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and product improvement, summarizing details to Team Leader, Manager and/or Senior Management.

3* Qualifications*

  • Education and Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The incumbent of this role preferably has an associate degree in Industrial Management or Business Administration with minimum of two to five (2-5) years of related supply chain and/or logistics experience, minimum two to five (2-5) years of related customer service experience and/or a higher level of either work experience. Experience using an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), MRP and CRM is preferred. Preferred experience as a hi-lo driver and experience using hand tools and building boxes/wooden crates. They must have the ability to make recommendations and implementation for process and efficiency improvements with ability to provide for continuous improvement.

  • Other required level of technical and/or practical judgment to perform the work:

To maintain process excellence, business operational standards, good customer relations and tight deadlines, as well as multi-task with various issues and priorities, the incumbent of this role must have excellent hands-on experience and be able to remain calm under normal working conditions and during times of where high customer demand requires high output to meet demand environment. The demonstrated ability to plan, execute and refine process, operations, reporting improvements and other business project objectives is required.

Physical and Sensory demands are representative of an employee working in a fast-paced office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision requirements are good general vision, ability to distinguish between colors, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The incumbent in this role will work in the warehouse/shop environment and production plant. The noise level is moderate; safety boots and eye protection are required; the working area may and may not be climate controlled.
