The Boiler Operator's main function of responsibilities are to keep the Boiler running and operational. This may include starting the Boiler, regulating and monitoring, maintenance repairs, testing, and occasional shut-down of the Boiler and related machinery. Other duties will including maintaining and cleaning the shop area, waste plant, courtyard, and silt system.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • A strong mechanical background helpful.
  • Must be able to closely follow operational instructions.
  • Ability to read, understand and adjust when necessary gauges, meters, and computerized controls.
  • Must be able to perform required Boiler testing.
  • Must be certified / licensed to operate Hyster.
  • Must be able to complete certification of training in lockout-tagout, fall protection, confined space, and be licensed in forklift operation.
  • Prior maintenance experience or mechanical aptitude helpful.
  • Use hand tools proficiently.
  • Must be able, in English, to read and/or write information in the Boiler Operator log book.
  • Must provide own hand tools and lockable toolbox.
  • Adhere to and practice all company and regulatory safety policies and requirements.


Education:

Education must be of such level as to allow for the accurate reading, writing, calculation and communication of the required materials and instructions to complete the job responsibilities. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, bend, or move repetitively for up to 12 hours.
  • Must be able to lift on a regular basis up to 50 lbs without assistance, and 100 lbs with assistance.
  • Must not be allergic to dust or chemicals.
  • Bending, stretching, lifting, reaching, climbing, crawling, crouching and fingering required.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.


**This position is currently on a 12 hour rotational shift schedule, starting in March 2022 the hours will change to 8 hour rotational shifts.
