Billing Specialist

Summary

The Billing Specialist is responsible for working collaboratively with the attorneys to make edits to a high volume of monthly prebills and subsequent invoices for submission to clients, while also following firm/client specific guidelines. The Billing Specialist will also ensure that client-matter, rates, billing requirements (including eBilling, as appropriate), and client billing guidelines are correctly set up in client billing system (Aderant). Other tasks include responding to questions related to the client billing system, including accounts receivable, unbilled time and costs, research and other duties as assigned. This position requires excellent communication skills and a positive team player spirit.

Essential Duties

  • Issue and track prebills until completion
  • Monitor and edit prebills/invoices in response to attorney requests
  • Revise and reissue invoices as needed
  • Liaise with clients, attorneys and staff to finalize bills
  • Handle attorney and client requests
  • Manage complex billing situations such as multiple billing address setup, split bills, and multi-payers
  • E-Billing setup, maintenance, rate submission and tracking e-billing approval process
  • Monitor, rectify and appeal e-billing rejections
  • Review billing guidelines to ensure billing accuracy
  • Confirm and setup new client addresses
  • Enter and confirm special billing requirements to track compliance
  • Special projects and hands-on reporting as needed

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Experience with Aderant (or Elite) billing system preferred
  • Familiarity with consolidated multi-matter billing desired
  • Electronic (e-billing) experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Must be organized and able to multi-task
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities as required

Must have a minimum 3 years' experience as a biller in a law firm environment

The actual base pay offered will depend upon a variety of factors, including, but not limited to the selected candidate's qualifications, years of relevant experience, and experience in the legal industry. As of the date of posting, JMBM reasonably expects to pay between $76k and $82k for this position.
