POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Y Learning Program Director, the Before and After School Care Site Assistant will be responsible for the general supervision and management of the site, as well as assisting in the child’s social, emotional, physical, spiritual and cognitive development.

POTENTIAL SITE LOCATIONS INCLUDE: • Allendale • Garfield • Jefferson • Monroe • Washington • Summit North • Summit Flat Rock • MCA • TEA • Carr • Foote • Keppen • Paun • Raupe • Lafayette • Hoover • Davidson Middle School • Shelters Elementary School • Allen Elementary School ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment, attending to the needs of the children at all times. • Welcome parents and children at all times with a smile and by name. • Assist in general overall site management.

Be visible! • React kindly and firmly in a positive manner when disciplining children. • Lead curriculum activities as decided with the Site Supervisor • Assist in planning and implementing of the daily program and monthly lesson plans under the guidance of Site Supervisor. • Assist children in their virtual learning needs on a daily basis.

  • Assist in planning and preparing of learning environments, set-up and clean-up and preparing needed material and supplies • Monitor the quantity, quality, appearance, maintenance and storage of all supplies and equipment needed for the program. Maintain general supply list on an ongoing basis. • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with all school staff, YMCA staff, program participants and the general public. • Attend all staff meetings and other activities (i.e.
open houses, PTA meetings, etc.) as required. • Have a working knowledge of and adhere to all licensing regulations in accordance to state laws and requirements. • Follow all safety, bloodborne and child abuse prevention guidelines. • Continue professional development through community involvement, workshops and seminars or formal education.

  • Serve healthy snacks and maintain paperwork as required. • Maintain the appropriate staff-to-child ratios. • Have an understanding and follow all emergency procedures at the site and record drills as needed. • Document incidents and accidents by filling out an FYI for parents, and YMCA Incident Report forms, submit them to supervisor.
Communicate all emergencies to supervisor immediately. • Serve as a role model for all youth participating in the Y Learning program and all staff by displaying exemplary behavior at all times included but not limited to demonstrating YMCA core values, voice, and HEPA standards. • Assist and attend community events sponsored by the YMCA as required. • Assume equal and shared responsibility of general housekeeping tasks.

  • Communicate with other staff on a regular basis regarding the care of the children. • Meet the needs of the children participating in the program. EFFECT ON END RESULT: • Provide a safe and loving environment for the children participating in the program. • Provide positive relations with those associated with the YMCA, children and parents alike.
  • A positive image of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit in the community. • Sound management skills of the various components of the position, including all supervision. • The degree to which the needs of the Y Learning Program participants, and their families are being met. QUALIFICATIONS: • Position requires the individual to be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. • Meets the requirements set forth by the state-licensing agency. Documentation of DHS clearance prior to starting work, TB skin test within 30 days, and CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications are required within 60 days. • Complete Blood Borne Pathogens training, Redwoods, and concussion trainings as required.
