The Role at a Glance
As the AVP, Reinsurance Treaties, you will provide leadership, direction, and functional expertise on complex projects/initiatives for your assigned area(s) of responsibility, which includes development, preparation, and maintenance of traditional and non-traditional reinsurance treaties (life and annuity lines of business) while adhering to corporate directives ensuring the continuing control and protection of its assets and minimizing exposure for the enterprise.
What you'll be doing
  • Provides management with monthly, quarterly & annual reviews of organization's financial status & progress in various programs & activities, including but not limited to claims, financial impairments of its reinsurers, new business & in force volumes.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects as may be related to Reinsurance Administration and Treaties.
  • Leads and directs responses on behalf of reinsurance to state insurance exams, inquiries, market conduct surveys, and other ancillary inquiries.
  • Directs special studies and analysis concerning economic and financial implications of existing and planned business initiatives or projects.
  • Prepares and analyses reports which summarize corporate level exposure (retention levels) and makes recommendations subject to those results.
  • Analyzes complex financial transactions for their impact on the organization including potential interaction with other agreements.
  • Serves as a leader/presenter at selected industry meetings or seminars (i.e. ACLI, SOA, RAPA, TAI) in their area of expertise.
  • Communicates with reinsurers on administrative, operational, contractual, claims and litigation matters.
  • Analyzes complex Actuarial models needed for various projects in their area of responsibility.
  • Provides external auditors with quarterly treaty documentation updates and addresses inquiries.
  • Designs and monitors acceptance criteria for new and existing reinsurance client base.
  • Designs, develops and maintains treaty prototypes and supporting infrastructure.
  • Identifies exposure and potential financial risks and elevates as appropriate.
What we’re looking for
Must-Haves:
  • 10+ Years Progressively increasing reinsurance experience including demonstrated significant experience with analysis, financial reporting, treaty development, preparation and negotiations.
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of a matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate knowledgeably and credibly with senior management and internal constituents.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel and management as well as external industry leaders and colleagues.
  • General understanding and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Sarbanes-Oxley 404 and other financial statutes.
  • In depth understanding of reinsurance treaties terms and conditions, TAI reinsurance billing and systems, compliance with state and federal regulatory elements affecting reinsurance treaties and transactions.
  • Ability to educate and articulate to clients unfamiliar with reinsurance treaties terms and processes.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence, procedures, policies, letters of intent, proposals.
  • Proven ability to write and articulate reinsurance treaties and provisions during negotiations with reinsurance client base and internal disciplines.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and any applicable regulatory organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Nice-to-haves:
  • Legal or Actuarial background preferred.
  • ASA, FSA, or Juris Doctorate preferred.

Pay Range: $118,300 - $215,800

Actual base pay could vary based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
