As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will be responsible for developing manufacturing solutions for avionics and harnessing. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight. Throughout the manufacturing process, you will also develop and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence and schedules.
In this role, you will partner with design engineers, avionics engineers, quality, and technicians in developing and manufacturing complex avionics assemblies supporting all Blue Origin programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing manufacturing solutions for avionics and harnessing sub-assembly and integration
  • As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight
  • Throughout the manufacturing process, you will also develop and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence and schedules
  • In this role, you will partner with design engineers, avionics engineers, quality, and technicians in developing and manufacturing complex avionics assemblies supporting all Blue Origin programs
  • Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing processes for avionics and harness components: fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment
  • Closely lead build sequence, quality and schedule of hardware every day during the assembly process
  • Support non-conformances and escapes and deploy recovery strategies, perform root cause analyses and lead corrective actions

  • Conduct reviews for major harness and avionics assemblies prior to movement between work centers and facilities, and capture lessons learned
  • Define how to prepare hardware for test, qualification, and flight
  • Conduct DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test
  • Perform engineering drawing reviews and provide final approval for manufacturing
  • Perform a hands-on engineering and liaison role between our design team and our manufacturing customers.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure that hardware and equipment is manufactured, processed, packaged, and delivered accurately, on time, and on budget

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
  • 3-5 years of direct manufacturing experience working with avionics or harnessing in support of aerospace vehicles.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and execution within complex, rapidly-changing manufacturing environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of J-STD-001, IPC-620 and IPC-610 standards
  • Experienced in applying commercial and military specifications and standards related to PWA, CCA, cables and harness.
  • Successful track record developing/starting new manufacturing processes
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Experience with ERP systems, work order creation/management, and BOM structures.
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the product lifecycle.
  • Project management skills consistent with leading a team including suppliers through the complex Production Transition phase.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Familiarity with specs related to installation of space vehicle harness assembly

Desired:

  • M.S. degree in mechanical, industrial, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software.
  • Experience in small company, startup, or growth transition environments.
  • Kaizen, Six Sigma, or related training.
