PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Audit Associate is a valuable business partner that provides meaningful insights and solutions for the improvement in internal controls and risk mitigation across the organization. The Audit Associate assists in the reviews of internal controls of Jefferson accounting, financial, and operational systems under the direction of the Internal Audit Manager and/or Senior Audit Associates in a highly automated environment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts a risk-based review of internal controls over operations, financial reporting and compliance functions of Jefferson as directed by the Senior Audit Associate or Internal Audit Manager.
  • Evaluates audit results to identify operational efficiencies and/or root causes of control failures and work with client management to develop a plan of action.
  • Documents audits work performed and assists with audit reports.
  • Performs parts of audits or small complete audits on an independent basis.
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the iSCORE values of Jefferson.


OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Executes audit programs by conducting interviews and gathering data and documenting results.
  • Communicate the findings and practical recommendations to management throughout the audit projects, educate process owners, including non-finance individuals, on the importance of internal control.
  • Participates in outside organizational activities to keep informed about improvements and current developments in audit standards, industry developments and related risks procedures and techniques (i.e., Best Practices).
  • Performs other job duties as requested, including assistance with external audits.

Internal Audit Department contacts – extensive coordination
Compliance and Enterprise Risk contacts – extensive coordination
Other Jefferson contacts – extensive audit and consultation procedures
External contacts include vendors, peers from other internal audit organizations, banks, external auditors, etc. – moderate coordination

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
3+ years of auditing experience required. Prior experience in healthcare or higher education desired.


EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor degree in business, accounting or finance related fields required . Masters degree preferred.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:

Eligibility, and demonstrated progress towards certification is required. Preference (in order listed): CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFE


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Proficiency in information technology systems required. Excellent writing, communication, and customer service skills required. Stay abreast of Institute of Internal Auditor standards and guidelines, as well as regulatory and risk factors associated with higher education and health care industries
