Summary:

The Audio Visual Specialist Manager is responsible for management of staff and is able to fulfil duties in Real Time, Field Work, INN and Technical Work. This position requires an individual who is trustworthy, detail-oriented, organized, personable, perceptive, cooperative, and communicatory-both compositionally and verbally.

A successful candidate will support the National Training Center Training Support Contract (NTCTSC). NTCTSC brings to bear the full capabilities of many of the world's best systems integration and engineering companies in the technical integration of live, virtual and constructive (LVC) training support. The National Training Center (NTC) is located at Fort Irwin, CA, in the Mojave Desert, approximately forty miles northeast of Barstow, CA. NTCTSC operations support the NTC mission to provide realistic joint and combined arms training focused on developing soldiers, leaders, and units of the United States military for success on the 21st Century Battlefield. Leadership responsibilities are applicable to this position and it requires advanced knowledge of research, ability to prepare, produce and edit audio/visual (film or videotape for closed-circuit television) material for use by the customer.


Essential Functions:

  • Consults the General Manager and/or shift lead for clarification of standard procedures and non-routine customer issues
  • Prioritizes and assigns tasks to the audio visual personnel and technicians
  • Provides training to all company personnel as needed
  • Acts as the General Manager in his/her absence
  • Acts as the point of contact between VVCEC and customers, and executes Scope-of-Work (SOW) requirements
  • Creates or provides input to the weekly work schedules
  • Supervises duty performance and makes recommendations on personnel and technical issues
  • Monitors the status of assigned equipment and reports equipment/systems malfunctions in accordance with established procedures
  • Prepares required documentation in accordance with established procedures
  • Selects from a range of standard video equipment for assignments, normally without opportunity for late retakes, when there are specific problems or uncertainties concerning lighting, exposure time, color, artistry, etc.
  • Discusses technical requirements with operating officials or supervisor, and customizes treatment for each situation according to detail request
  • Works independently and solves most problems through consultations with more experienced Audio Visual Specialists, if available, or through reference sources
  • Operates current and future audio and video equipment that records and transmits/routes audio and video signals
  • Edits, dubs and degausses/blacks audio/video tape; edits in the linear and non-linear realms
  • Operates PC/MAC based computer workstations
  • Operates theater equipment in support of customer presentations and AARs
  • Assists customers in the development and creation of new projects
  • Operates base station radio to assist field/maintenance personnel
  • Performs routine user maintenance on audio visual equipment
  • Uses standard still cameras, commonly available lighting equipment and related techniques to take photographs which involve limited problems of speed, motion, color contrast, or lighting.
  • Consults with the appropriate field or corporate personnel to determine which of their requirements can best be served by using film or videotape
  • Based on clear-cut objectives, determines shutter speeds, lens settings and filters, camera angles, exposure times and type of film which requires advanced familiarity with the situation gained from similar past experience to arrange for specific emphasis, balanced lighting, and correction for distortion, etc., as needed
  • May use 16mm or 35mm motion picture cameras for simple shots such as moving equipment or individuals at work or meetings, where available or simple artificial lighting is used
  • May use video cameras to capture/document Army training operations and command ceremonies
  • May serve as the producer once the material is ready for shooting
  • Researches and prepares the material, selects music, sound effects, etc.
  • Adheres to the company directives, memoranda, policies and procedures
  • Assists in the development of and enforces quality/ISO, security and safety training programs
  • Duties may include filming live fire missions
  • Requires the ability to safely operate motor vehicles both on and off public roads
  • May require driving in areas with uneven terrain; the safe operation of motor vehicles is an essential requirement of this position.
  • Assist with Audio Visual Specialist II and Audio Visual Specialist III responsibilities as needed which may require operating MAARs, MVUs, and AVI sites.
  • May be called upon by other work centers across the NTCTSC team to ensure mission work is completed on time during rotations
  • May be requested to attend workshops or other training to maintain knowledge, develop skill sets, and expand career development
  • Provides guidance and direction to all personnel, including working with the General Manager in setting performance standards and monitoring performance
  • Assists with employee evaluations as requested by the General Manager
  • Works with General Manager to update work instructions
  • Develops and implements training modules for employees
  • May be called upon to work in any area including Real Time, Field Work, INN, and Technical Work
  • Any other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a current AVIII, if promotional
  • Five (5) years of experience in the audio/video environment, to include a minimum of two (2) years experience in a first line supervisory position
  • Must currently possess an active DoD Secret Clearance; or other equivalent U. S. Government Security Clearance
  • Current California Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or willingness to obtain a CDL

Preferred Qualification:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Willingness to lead, take charge, offer opinions and direction, and take on responsibilities and challenges

Other Requirements:

  • Obtain and maintain Post driving privileges
  • Obtain and maintain Military licenses and Night Vision certification, if required
  • Travel off road in company 4x4 vehicles
  • Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Willing and able to work non-standard work weeks and various shifts to include working weekends and holidays as required
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Ability to perform duties with travel in extreme weather conditions (i.e., heat, cold, wind, and rain) and at height (helicopter travel, mountain tops, elevated walk areas and towers)
  • May be cross-utilized to perform duties that are within the skill set of this job description across all domains to meet the needs of the training mission
  • Must meet and maintain fleet insurability standards
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, and physical examination
  • Comply with company policies, quality standards and procedures
  • Current California Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or willingness to obtain a CDL
