POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Branch Director, the Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing Kettle Moraine YMCA members and community participants with a supportive, motivating, and inspiring experience through individual or team training, to prevent injury, track athlete progress, prepare athletes for events, and reach performance goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists the Program Manager to establish strategic goals that match YMCA services and resources to the needs of the members and program participants.
  • Builds and maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, volunteers, other staff, and the communities we serve.
  • Establishes a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement for all athletes while considering the background and developmental level of the individual.
  • Analyzes athletes’ performance to determine strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies to improve performance
  • Creates individualized training programs for athletes to improve performance, prevent injuries, and increase endurance levels
  • Observes and assesses athletes’ performance during competitions or practices to provide feedback to coaches on technique and strategy adjustments
  • Advises on care and management of work and non-work related injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation
  • Meets members and program participant needs by developing, evaluating, and modifying individual exercise programs for rehabilitation to help athletes return to a pre-injury status.
  • Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion
  • Ensures members are using the equipment safely and are aware of and following the appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Daily engagement with members and clients as well as daily upkeep of fitness areas (cleaning, towels, etc.).
  • Ensures safety of all members, guests and staff within the guidelines of the Kettle Moraine YMCA and the Healthy Living Department.
  • Creates fitness plans to fit client needs.
  • Awareness of current fitness programs and trends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field preferred
  • Hold current Athletic Training or Personal Training certification.
  • The ability to relate to and engage with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an interest and ability in working with individuals of all fitness levels.
  • Current CPR/AED certification preferred; required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to: bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach, stand, lift up to 50lbs, grasp, perform repetitive motions.
