Job Title: Associate Director of Resident Experience

Reports To: Director of Undergraduate Affiliated Housing

Location: University of Maryland - South Campus Commons & The Courtyards

Compensation: $70,000.00-$75,000.00 per year, staff apartment and comprehensive benefits package

FLSA Status: Exempt


Summary

The Associate Director-Resident Experience is a full-time, live-on position, responsible for the management of the resident experience at South Campus Commons and The Courtyards at UMD. The position will directly supervise and evaluate one SCC Assistant Director-Resident Services, one CTY Assistant Director-Resident Life, and provide in-direct supervision for one CTY Resident Director, and 105 undergraduate student staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for the vision and day-to-day resident experience of a residential area of approximately 720 residents at The Courtyards
  • Administer a comprehensive student training of 105 student staff between South Campus Commons and The Courtyards.
  • Manage all student staff functions including selection, training, supervision, evaluation, and on-boarding.
  • Provide direction and response The Courtyards to residents in crisis, resident behavioral issues, general safety, and roommate conflicts and communicate with UMD Student Affairs staff as needed.
  • Assist residents who are experiencing housing issues and communicate directly with South Campus Commons Resident Life staff as needed.
  • In-directly oversee the The Courtyards Resident Life experience including the programming engagement/model, conduct, fire watch, Residence Hall Association (RHA), and Resident Handbook.
  • In-directly oversee three 24/7 Service Desks at South Campus Commons serving approximately 2,100 residents for resident needs including packages, keys, and general resident questions.
  • Oversee annual survey execution, participation, and response plan.
  • Directly works with residents who request disability accommodations and ESA approval.
  • Support the mission and efforts connected to University of Maryland Student Affairs and Resident Life goals/ objectives.
  • Utilizes Star Rez, Property Boss, and other database systems to ensure accurate record keeping of student information.
  • Supervise, support, and assist in the implementation of move-in, turn, and move-out .
  • Assists with social media, website, and publication content creation.
  • Helps with the content creation of weekly reports.
  • Oversee the Professional Staff On-Duty (PSOD) Manual and PSOD staff scheduling (participate in PSOD duty rotation when there is a staff vacancy).
  • Assists with budget creation and implementation in areas impacting the resident experience.
  • Assist the Director with other duties/projects as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise and evaluate one Assistant Director-Resident Services, one Assistant Director-Resident Life, and provide in-direct supervision for one Resident Director, and 105 undergraduate student staff.
  • Evaluate job performance of all direct supervisees by providing ongoing feedback and annual performance reviews and assist supervisees with execution of goals.
  • Schedule and conduct regular staff meetings to convey information.


Qualifications

  • Required Master’s Degree in related field (Higher Education/Student Affairs/Counseling).
  • At least three years related experience in Student Housing Operations, Residence Life or higher education student services.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. All must be accomplished in English.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment including photocopier, fax, and telephone. Basic typing and computer skills


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to communicate orally. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.


Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is usually performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. The work environment is mid to high paced. The ability to work more than 40 hours a week while learning the operation and during key times of operational demand is necessary. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
