Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno Advancement division is recruiting for an Assistant Vice President, Development. This position is responsible for managing the colleges/schools/units/programs development activities necessary to identify and track prospects, potential and current, to support the University’s development and campaign efforts at all levels of giving as it pertains to prospect identification, research, management, tracking and screening.
The position works with all areas of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) to focus on the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects. The AVP maintains a primary focus on the development and implementation of strategic fundraising plans to enhance giving from higher potential donors. Positions work independently with Dean’s or other executive staff to manage fundraising projects.
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provide direct supervision, leadership and mentoring of a fundraising team (development staff) for assigned Colleges, Schools, and Units, including central UA
  • Lead recruitment efforts to hire effective and experienced development staff with a focus on building a diverse team. Network with individuals to create a pool of potential candidates to notify of any openings. Create a recruitment plan that will attract talented higher education development professionals.
  • Continuously improve and implement onboarding program for new development employees.
  • Strategically enhance employee productivity that will result in an increase of philanthropic support and growth of the donor pipeline.
  • Independently engage the Deans and development staff in annual strategic planning to support philanthropic needs of colleges/schools/units/programs.
  • Find funding that may not otherwise be available for a project by networking within the community and creating community partnerships.
  • Implement and oversee smaller fundraising projects with assigned areas and development staff to increase receipt of gifts and to enhance stewardship.
  • Collaborate with other departments within UA to strategically align prospects, both potential and current, in appropriate events such as dinners, athletic events, tailgates, concerts, lectures, etc. so they become better acquainted with the University and see how their philanthropic support can have a positive impact on the faculty, programs and students.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and six (6) years of related professional work experience; OR a Master’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience
Related Experience: Progressively responsible professional experience in areas of development, prospect management and research, strategic planning and data management including one year of supervisory experience.
