We supply our customers with services including, but not limited to, marine electronics repair, industrial fabrication, barge mending, pier side repairs as well as hauling vessels out of the water for underwater repairs to equipment such as propellers, tailshafts, rudders, keel coolers and hull plating.

Lyon Shipyard has 2 facilities located on over thirty acres of prime waterfront property on the northern and southern shores of the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River, just minutes from downtown Norfolk, Virginia.

Assist the Labor Shop Supervisor in initiating and/or implementing a production schedule and man-hour estimates for completion of a job assignment. Orders the required materials and supplies for completion of a job. In conjunction with the Shop Foreperson, assigns duties and adjusts work procedures/schedules to meet production schedules. Ensures that workers accomplish required job assignments. Maintains employee time and certification records. Ensures that yard safety rules and regulations are carried out. Carries out other duties as assigned by the Shop Supervisor

Responsibilities:

1. Competent Person designation.

2. Act as liaison with job estimator. Provide calculations on hours involved, materials needed, and staff required.

3. Recognize and communicate to Supervisor any priority projects or problems, such as employee or job costing issues.

4. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed, bring problems to the attention of the Supervisor, Superintendent, Safety Manager, QA Manager or HR Manager.

5. Supervise crews to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, commitment, teamwork and pride.

6. Review and verify employee time sheets and submit to payroll on specified days. Ensure that hours are assigned to the proper vessel.

7. Suggest and initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, hires and training requirements. Adhere to the company’s Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Policy when taking part in any employment action or decision, such as hiring, job assignment, layoff or termination.

8. Update Supervisor on problems and recommend motivational plans.

9. Communicate regularly about repair and maintenance needs on all major pieces of equipment on assigned jobs.

10. Relate to the employees in a professional, courteous and respectful manner, appropriately responding to their issues/ complaints.

11. Follow Daily Procedures & Protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings/ meetings.

Work Environment

Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat, near moving mechanical parts and includes occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and to vibration.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position periodically requires long hours and weekend work. Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential function and a prerequisite to perform other essential functions of the position.

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
