    POSITION SUMMARY:

    This position is responsible for the oversite of 10 middle schools. Supervise 10 principals, more than 4000 employees and approximately 7,000 students. This position will coach and develop instructional leaders, provide leadership and oversite of school improvement plans, serve as a community and district leader district. This position is part of the senior leadership team and reports to the district superintendent.

    PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Drive continuous improvement of instruction.
    • District strategic planning.
    • Display a data driven focus on student learning and achievement or growth.
    • Coach and develop principals and staff as appropriate.
    • Support and ensure maintaining a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all students.

    • Collaborate with professional colleagues in district administration and departments.
    • Ensure positive, orderly and safe building climates.
    • Ensure management of the fiscal, operational, and technological resources of all buildings in a way that focuses on effective instruction and the achievement of all students.
    • Select “right fit” principals and assist/ensure building leaders are selecting “right fit” teachers and support staff.
    • Conduct thorough onboarding for all new principals.

    • Complete and discuss principal performance on a regular basis meeting the expectations of the performance evaluation process and timelines outlined by OPS board policy and Kansas Statutes.
    • Supervise Executive Director, Elementary and ensure there is coaching, developing, communication evaluations are completed according to policy for all teachers and support positions.
    • Engage community, building and district staff.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Licensed as a school and district administrator in Kansas.
    • 5-10 years of teaching experience.
    • 5+ years of administrator leadership experience.

    • Middle school and experience at more than one building, preferred.
    • Experience in servicing high needs student populations.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Strong background in instruction
    • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills

    • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
    • High degree of motivation, responsibility and confidentiality
    • Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing data
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment
    • Highly collaborative team player

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)
    • Strong analytical and interpretive skills
    • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in calculations
    • Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results
    • Effective decision-making skills; capable of having crucial conversations

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    This position requires the performance of light work—which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The position includes close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking and standing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.

    This position can be a physical position that requires agility and crisis management skills. The job is performed in non-hazardous environments and a clean atmosphere.
