The Social Work & Marriage and Family Therapy Department seeks a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor of Social Work with a deep understanding of the principles and practices of anti-racism to join our diverse, highly collaborative, student-centered faculty team as we expand our offerings portfolio to include an innovative Masters of Social Work (MSW) Program focused on the preparation of MSWs for excellence in interprofessional collaborative practice. This position will encompass teaching and scholarship, along with service as MSW Program Director, who, in close collaboration with the Department Chair, will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the CSWE MSW Program candidacy process through initial accreditation and beyond. In addition to a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, a productive scholarship agenda, and service, the ideal candidate will have capacity to teach across the social work curriculum, be familiar with the principles of IPE (interprofessional education) and committed to its full inclusion in social work education at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The faculty position requires in-person presence and is not open to remote hire.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a highly engaged member of the social work faculty team and broader academic department
  • With guidance of the Department Chair, provide leadership for the MSW candidacy process, program launch, ongoing implementation, and its CSWE reaffirmation cycle
  • Teach courses across the social work curriculum and continuum (graduate and undergraduate)
  • Create and routinely update course syllabi that accurately reflect and effectively serve the program’s competency-based curriculum and assessment plan
  • Continuously assess effectiveness of own teaching, course curricula and instructional strategies
  • Develop and maintain a recognized scholarship agenda as demonstrated through a range of scholarly activities
  • Actively engage in service (committees; work groups; task forces etc.) to the program, NYP Iona School of Health Sciences and the University at large
  • Actively participate in regularly scheduled Social Work faculty and departmental meetings, inclusive of annual daylong retreat at conclusion of each academic year
  • Serve as member of the New York Presbyterian-Iona School of Health Sciences Undergraduate/Graduate Council (UGGC) Curriculum Committee
  • Work collaboratively with the University’s IPE Faculty Steering Group to ensure full integration of IPE into the social work curriculum and to promote excellence in interprofessional collaborative practice
  • Plan course scheduling and faculty teaching assignments in consultation with undergraduate Social Work Program Director
  • Coordinate Annual MSW Program Assessment Plan and reporting
  • Serve as MSW Program’s Cost Center Budget manager
  • Provide administrative summer coverage for MSW Program
  • Collaborate with New York Presbyterian-Iona School of Health Sciences Graduate Admissions team to plan and staff outreach and recruitment efforts
  • Participate in faculty searches and adjunct hiring as warranted
  • Support and participate in the University’s system of shared governance
  • Represent Social Work/MFT Department and MSW Program with the highest levels of professionalism
  • Demonstrate appreciation and respect for the Iona University mission, the NYP Iona School of Health Sciences and Social Work/MFT Departmental culture, and the heritage of the Christian Brothers, as evidenced in an ability to establish and nurture strong collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff and the broader community.

Required Credentials:

  • PhD or DSW in Social Work
  • MSW from a CSWE accredited program required
  • NYS license or license eligible (LMSW or LCSW)

Necessary Experience/Skills/Characteristics:

  • Flexible, proactive, visionary comfortable with the process of innovation
  • Demonstrated engagement of anti-racism in teaching and scholarly work
  • Prior program development, successful program management or administrative experience in higher education or organization serving as practicum site for social work students
  • Prior college-level social work teaching and professional advisement experience
  • Highly collaborative work style
  • Student-centered and strengths-based orientation to the education of social work students
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Commitment to maintaining a positive, supportive, and collegial work environment
  • Strong computer/technology skills
  • Willingness to work regular schedule that will include some evenings, and occasionally to adjust regular schedule to meet program needs (e.g., weekend events)

  • Conversational Spanish fluency
  • Spanish biliteracy (reading/writing)
