The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, College of Health, Education and Professional Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position in Public Health beginning August 2023.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Department of Health and Human Performance, invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, tenure eligible faculty position, requiring a balance of research, teaching, and service. The faculty will teach courses and advise students to equip students for a career in public health. The successful candidate will also be expected to work closely with the MPH Program Director in contributing to curriculum development and planning of the MPH program based on the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation standards. Additionally, the new faculty member will be expected to develop and engage in interdisciplinary community-based partnerships, contribute to collaborative research projects, and provide service to the institution and the local community. Working collaboratively with faculty and staff within the program, department, college, and across campus is essential.

The Master of Public Health program has two concentrations: a concentration in Chronic Disease Prevention and Control and a concentration in Nutrition and Dietetics. Both MPH concentrations are accredited by CEPH and the Nutrition and Dietetic program is also accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The MPH program is designed to develop leaders in public health who are qualified to address health-related needs at individual and community levels to improve health outcomes. Faculty members in the program are necessary to complement the existing faculty by contributing to the leadership process and to the growth of the program.

This search is focused on identifying a candidate with an expertise in one or more of the following areas: public health policy, biostatistics and/or epidemiology, rural health, environmental justice, LGBTQ+ health disparities, and mental health.

Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:

  • An earned doctoral degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, Nutrition or closely related field, is required. Degree must be conferred by August 1, 2023.
  • At least one of the earned graduate academic degrees is from a program of public health accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
  • Previous college or university-level teaching experience in health-related fields such as public health, health policy, health environment, health systems, research method, epidemiology, food system, or nutrition.
  • Evidence of conducting and disseminating health-related research such as peer-reviewed publications and professional presentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and build consensus among diverse, multicultural populations, including graduate students, faculty, and community partners.
  • Willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC strategic plan.

The preferred qualifications are as follows:

  • Master of Public Health degree preferred
  • Member of Delta Omega, the Honorary Society in Public Health
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and/or Certified Public Health Specialist (CPH)
  • Area of specialization in public health policy, biostatistics and/or epidemiology, rural health, environmental justice, LGBTQ+ health disparities, and mental health
  • Knowledge of the CEPH and/or ACEND accreditation process
  • Established research record in the field of public health
  • Familiarity with a variety of instructional modalities, including online and hybrid instruction
