Summary of Position:
The Mathematics Department seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor to teach math courses, principally lower division and developmental math courses, contribute to developmental math education, contribute to curriculum development and instructional strategies that improve the quality of developmental math education, participate in departmental and University initiatives that focus on retention, and pursue related professional development and scholarly activity.

The start date of this position will be August 2023.

Required Education:
PhD in Mathematics OR PhD in Mathematics Education with master's equivalent background in mathematics

Required Work Experience:
Demonstrated experience in working with developmental or lower division mathematics students.

Prior teaching experience.

Evidence of scholarly potential related to the study of academic dispositions, cognition, instruction, or curriculum development involving developmental and lower division mathematics.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Teach math courses, including developmental and lower division courses.

Contribute to developmental mathematics initiatives.

Conduct scholarly activity related to the teaching and learning of developmental mathematics.

Participate in initiatives that focus on retention.

Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in University committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).

Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.

Perform duties assigned within the position classification area.

Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Statement of Philosophy Requirements:
Statement of Philosophy must include the following elements:
(1) Detail of experience in working with developmental students;
(2) Instructional approach to teaching developmental and lower division students;
(3) Outline of scholarship and professional development goals and plans related to the instruction and study of developmental students;
(4) Ideas for collaborating with faculty on initiatives and projects that lead to improved retention.
