Job Summary
The Department of Electrical Engineering in the College of Engineering, the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications at the assistant professor level to begin in the Fall of 2023. Exceptional candidates at higher ranks will also be considered.
We seek individuals who demonstrate exceptional potential for or evidence of leading a high-impact, world-class funded research program training PhD, MS, and BSEE students. All candidates must have strong aptitude for effective teaching in core and specialized areas of our curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty responsibilities include developing and maintaining an internationally recognized research program, effective classroom teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the local and international professional communities.
We welcome candidates who can be world-class leaders in strategic growth areas with an emphasis on, but not limited to, integrated photonics and semiconductor devices (see https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/engineering/academics/departments/electrical/research).

Department and College/School Information
The Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) is part of the College of Engineering (CoE) at UTA, one of the largest engineering colleges in Texas ( https://www.uta.edu/engineering). Active research areas include power electronics; renewable energy and energy storage, electric propulsion; power systems, cyber-physical systems, intelligent and autonomous systems; machine learning; environmental sensing; optics and photonics; and wireless communications. The EE department has strong support from the College of Engineering and UTA administration to continue its top tier status in research and teaching excellence. Photonics and Semiconductors are one of the focus areas of growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Faculty in Electrical Engineering are required to:
  • develop and innovate classroom and laboratory instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • establish and lead an independent, student-based research group supported by externally acquired financial support accessing federal, state, local and/or industrial funding sources.

  • maintain a strong record of academic output such as reviewed journal articles, presentations in national and international conferences along and/or intellectual property.

  • develop and nurture a collaborative network within the EE department, across UTA campus, other aspirational universities and with local industry.

  • serve the department, college and their technical community.

Required Qualifications
The candidate must have the following attributes by the date of hire:
  • a PhD in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering or a closely related field.

  • excellence in research that complements or extends existing research strengths in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the potential to attract external funding.

  • evidence of excellence in teaching or the potential to perform well at both graduate and undergraduate levels in both the classroom and teaching laboratories.

  • participation in service to community, academic department, college, and university.

Preferred Qualifications
Photonics at UTA’s Department of Electrical Engineering embodies a wide range of science and engineering topics including solid state physics, nanophotonics, optical, optoelectronic devices such as lasers, sensors, quantum and nonlinear optics, and integrated chips and systems. To complement existing efforts we seek specific strengths that preferably include photonic chip integration and packaging. Experience with quantum integrated photonics and semiconductor integrated circuits will be a plus.
