General Description:

Under the direction of the superintendent and building principal, the individual in this position will provide leadership and support for teachers and students both inside the classroom and athletics. The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of all students and staff. They will establish a safe, pleasant, and effective educational atmosphere, and carry out school policy, student handbook guidelines, and discipline on a day-to-day basis for students in grades 6-12. This person should be a student-centered problem solver who strongly desires to create a positive and joyful learning environment and athletic programming for all students. As Athletic Director this person would also have experience within an athletic program including coaching sports, working with other coaches and athletes, support staff, and experience running athletic programs and sporting conducting events.


Qualifications:

  • A valid Michigan School Administrator certificate, preferred
  • Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate, preferably a Health/PE endorsement
  • Administrative experience at the middle and secondary level preferred
  • 6-12 classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in planning, instruction, decision-making, supervision, conflict resolution including support through PBIS and Restorative Practice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate verbally and in writing to a wide variety of audiences including staff, parents, and the general public
  • Experience in working in and leading athletic programs through MHSAA.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Interact with all students in a positive manner to encourage performance at their highest level.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of highly effective classroom management strategies and instructional practices as well as the ability to implement those concepts in a classroom setting.
  • Provide general supervision/discipline to students
  • Oversee athletic activities in conjunction with coaches
  • The ability to attend and run after school athletic events.
  • Evaluate performance and effectiveness of the athletic programs staff
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents, parent groups, school volunteers and outside agencies
  • Professional appearance and regular attendance at school-sponsored events and athletic activities.
  • Keen awareness of responsibilities for confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • The ability to multitask and work as a team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

Salary and Contract:

The salary and fringe benefits will be commensurate with the education and experience of the candidate. The starting salary range is $70,000 – $75,000. The full-time start date for this position is August 14, 2023, part time work to prepare for the fall athletic season could begin as early as August 1, 2023.
