The Assistant Director position will provide an exciting opportunity to join CCC now and be an integral part of developing a new childcare program at Western Avenue Children’s Center (WACC). WACC will become the seventh center of Campus Child Care, Inc. (CCC) in mid-June 2023. Adjacent to Harvard’s new Science and Engineering complex in Allston, Massachusetts, WACC is licensed for 8 classrooms and 83 children, and will open as a small program before growing to its eventual capacity, as staffing and enrollment allow.

Being organized, professional, and flexible are keys to success as an Assistant Director (AD). A part of the administrative, leadership and supervision team, the AD must have excellent written and verbal communications skills. It is important that the AD be a supportive and consistent presence for staff and families.

MA EEC D2 qualifications are required with a related degree preferred. Discretion with sensitive and timely information, ability to multitask, and comfort with managing change is crucial.

The Assistant Director at WACC will work closely with the Director and teaching staff on community and curriculum development, and is responsible for the program in the Director’s absence.

The AD is responsible for assisting the Director and supporting staff through:
● Maintain knowledge of and adherence to current EEC regulations
● Oversee daily operations of WACC
● Supervise and support all staff o Schedule observations of, reflections and evaluations o Create and maintain staff schedules o Foster mutually respectful working relationships among all WACC staff o Development of Individual Professional Development Plans (IPDP) o Gather, organize, and communicate professional development opportunities o Manage referrals to HR o Plan staff meetings

● Curriculum planning

  • Provide guidance and material resources to support the development of a Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum
  • Attend team meetings
  • Facilitate relationships with the community around WACC o Identify community resources to supplement and/or enrich the WACC services

● Support for Families

  • Work with families and community partners to provide additional support and resources for children and classrooms as needed (EI/OT/PT/Speech)
  • Coordinate parent workshops

● Program Support

  • Ongoing organization and review of all licensing, accreditation and QRIS processes.
  • Oversight of staff files and required paperwork
  • Oversight of children’s paperwork and files

● Other program support duties as needed, such as:

  • Maintain consistent communication with Central Office staff
  • Oversight of communications between WACC and families
  • Communication with facilities personnel regarding day to day building concerns
  • Opening or closing the center daily
  • Oversight of PTO requests and timecard reviews

Qualifications and Skills:
● Experience: At least 2 years employed in a leadership position in an early childhood environment
● Education/Training: BA in ECE or related field, Leadership and Administrative training preferred
● Certifications: EEC D2 certification required
● Skills: Microsoft Office and computer organizational skills required. Spreadsheet function and strong writing skills needed. Strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
● Desired: Experience working and leading in a Reggio Emilia-inspired program
● Must be able to participate in all classroom activities, sit on the floor, stand for significant portions of the day, lift at least 40 pounds, and move quickly in the event of an emergency.
