Position Summary Information
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3-4 years of research administration experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of federal sponsors, programs, governance, and electronic systems.
- Experience with electronic research administration systems and software.
- Proficient with computer applications (word processing, databases, spreadsheets) & eRA systems.
License/Certification Required

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree with five or more years of research administration experience with a broad range of sponsors.
- CRA
- Knowledge of research compliance issues and regulations.
- Knowledge of University and state research guidelines and regulations.
- Leadership and management experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the
Assistant Director for Proposal Management (ADPM) is to manage the flow of proposal submission and review in support of the strategic unit/Office of Research/Institutional goals and measures.
This individual reports to the director of Sponsored Programs, who reports to the Vice Provost for Research.

- Manages the internal flow of proposal processes before submission.
- Works with faculty and staff to submit proposals.
- Provides consultation and technical assistance in sponsored project proposal development and submission.
- Assists with the management of award and post-award actions/processes.
- Mentors colleagues and assists with the development of electronic tools and resources.
- May assist the director and the associate director in providing oversight for large, complex proposals with various federal, state, corporate, private, and non-profit sponsors.
- Collaborates in the planning and delivery of SP workshop offerings and may take the lead on important SP initiatives.
- Engages in professional development activities to assist with the provision of cutting-edge services.

Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. At times this employee will be expected to work evenings or weekends to accommodate proposal submissions or special programs/training sessions. Schedule adjustments will be made with the director of Sponsored Programs.

Work for this office requires a predominance of computer workstation use. Thus applicants must be able to spend long periods of time at a workstation. Other tasks are performed in an office setting, which requires the ability to perform normal office functions such as telephone communications, filing, etc. It may, however, include light lifting, etc. to store office supplies or to prepare for training programs or special projects that require delivery of materials or movement of tables, chairs or other light furniture. This person must be able to move around campus to meet with clients and lead training programs.
